Another short day.

so the defense is now claiming that Dalton was NOT at work on the 16th? And his phone was back in Brooklyn?

Just trying to force doubt in the jurors' minds. Not happening, imo.

Has CBR been looking at a cell phone this afternoon? He seems to have had something in his hands drawing his attention.
I noticed that too. Maybe he was looking for those earbuds in his lap again?

I sure hope it's closing arguments tomorrow. Enough of this!

So we have more hours of this same line of defense it seems. They will call the ex-gf of Dalton, and grill her about snapchat and cheating.

Then they will likely call the work supervisors, to see if they can shake up his alibis for work that week.

Really? What did they say in regards to that? I didn't see anything on the Twitter feeds.

And there we have it. I will have to catch up late day tomorrow. Thanks in advance to all you lovely folks posting tweets and thoughts. Have a good eve. Be safe. Be kind.

Wow. It sounds like "Dalton did it" is the main defense? Someone that has been officially cleared with zero evidence against him?

But his SnapChats! He was messaging another high school girl! Mollie didn't like that!

Or maybe he was just too drunk to remember where he was. Or so mad he blacked it out. Oops that's our client. The one with blood in his trunk that admitted running up to her on the road where her heartbeat increased. The one seen circling her like a vulture. The one that admitted carrying her from the trunk over his shoulder. The one that LED POLICE TO HER DEAD BODY!

Everyone is on trial except the killer, Rivera.

They implied the boss's word is all we can take and he is a drunk. Dalton sent a text saying his phone data was not working so perhaps it put him Dubuque falsely. At least I think that is what they were implying.

Hah! His shifty eyes always give him away.

I forgot about this account by one of Mollie's friends.

Friend of murdered Mollie Tibbetts reveals chilling texts with Cristhian Rivera, Mollie's killer | Daily Mail Online

Aug 28, 2018

A school friend of murdered Iowa student Mollie Tibbetts shared with DailyMail.com a text message exchange with the murder suspect that took place two weeks after the young girl's disappearance.

[..]

Haileigh frequently returned to Brooklyn to visit family and would often see Mollie while she was out with friends.

She is also familiar with the 24-year-old Mexican immigrant who was arrested for Mollie's murder yesterday after police uncovered surveillance footage of his car following the 20-year-old while she was out jogging on July 18.

The 18-year-old asked, 'So you think she’s [with] someone she knows', before Rivera wrote, [I don't know] her parents say they think she is so probably.'

On August 10, while she was visiting friends in Iowa and while the hunt for Mollie intensified, Haileigh ran into Cristhian while she was out with a group.

She once again asked if he had known what had happened to Mollie and he became uncomfortable, she claimed on Wednesday during an interview with DailyMail.com.

Everything was normal except for when we brought Mollie up. He didn’t seem to want to talk about her, just changed the subject.

'I was panicked and was asking everyone if they knew anything. So I brought it up again and asked what he thought happened.

''All he said was “Probably what her parents think, she took off with someone and doesn’t know what to do.”
Does this show he does understand English?

Mollie disappeared on Weds -- not Monday.

There's no question of her whereabouts on Monday so what difference does DJ's location on Monday make? I'm sure all the witnesses called are appearing by subpoena and hope they also can't recall and therefore do not offer any grains to the defense.

I never believed he blacked out at all. Now we know it may have been the investigators who gave him that idea. He probably gave a lot of "I don't know" or "I don't remember," answers while they were questioning him.

I can't help but think, pure speculation on my part, that CB actually thinks that having "blacked out" during the killing would somehow be an excuse that would mean no legal punishment (kinda like the folks who do stuff while sleepwalking, not that I think he's aware of those cases legally).

I don't know if language obstacles contributed to his thinking this or where he might have gotten that idea, but I can't help thinking that is his mindset and why he claimed to have blacked out/"blocked out". MOO

Interesting, we are hearing this all 2nd hand...so, the prosecution cannot actually nail down who the date was with, if in fact, there was a date. Why isn't this considered "heresay"? He "said" he had a date...seems pretty meaningless.
Does this show he does understand English?
We have heard, either at trial or otherwise, from plenty of people that had conversations with him. Seems he spoke English pretty good.

I don't think there's any question that CBR both understands and speaks English! He came to the US at age 17 and has now lived in Iowa for more than half his life. Spanish is certainly his first language but it's a farce to say he doesn't speak or understand English. MOO

Yes, I think he speaks English good. For interrogation purposes, LE would of course want an interpreter so he can't later say "I didn't understand." And is entitled to interpreters in court. But there is no doubt that the headphones he is wearing in court is just for show. Its for the "I'm a poor immigrant and I don't understand what is going on" look.

Yes, I think that might have been the direction he was going when he said he had a history of blackouts when he got angry.

It's hard to know what was going on in his mind. He's not the brightest bulb, but I'm sure he's capable of deceiving and manipulating people.

I think it was an excuse for him to not have to tell the police what he did. Now he is sort of stuck with it. He was willing to show the police where her body was, but he just didn't want to tell them how it happened.
