What do we know? We know that she rebuked him, he did not like that and he got angry. What he did with that anger is he stabbed her.

Motive is having some evidence as to why something happened, Scott Brown says. And we know that this is the motive because he told the officer that this is the motive.

He led them to Mollie in the dark from Yarrabee Farms, Brown says. "Only Mollie's killer would know her location, only that person."

"No one other than the defendant knew where Mollie was located." Cops, agents searched up and down, Brown says. @KCCINews #bahenariveratrial

CBR is much more animated today, very nervous. He keeps shaking his legs. He keeps looking around.

Nice to know they finally got the scums attention. Hoping... Justice is coming.

Sorry for stupid question, but I'm not well versed on trials. Is it too late for the defense to change their plea? I've always felt their goal was the get a lesser charge, at best, but now I'm wondering if they will try to get a deal. I just don't know at what point they can't do that anymore.
Legally, they are allowed to all agree on a Plea Deal, up until a verdict is reached.....

PROBLEM is that the DA isn't likely to offer one if they feel they have a solid chance to get Guilty Verdict. So unless the trial is going badly for the prosecution, they won't be open to a plea deal.

Brown: "He knows this is the one thing people can't get past when it comes to his guilt -- that he led them to the body...so what does he do? He comes up with another story." @KCCINews #bahenariveratrial

Brown addresses the other names defense brought up. Says police vetted them, but there was no evidence connecting any of these men to the crime.@kccinews

I really wish the State would put down the facts and sit down. The jury does not need to be told this repeatedly.

Side note-pet peeve-will get to that in a minute-I'll discuss that in a bit-we will talk more about that at a later time-

I don't like how he is sort of just glossing over the brutality of the stabbing. I think that is really critical evidence.

Brown goes back to jury selection. We asked you about possibilities, he said. Emphasizes that something being "possible" doesn't make it reasonably true.

"What's the evidence (of the possibilities) in the case? Really none," Brown says.

"Don't fall for the possibilities." Brown says. Saying he will wrap up in a moment. (Closing arguments certainly a lot longer than opening statements.)

"This woman was brutally stabbed, there should be no doubt about that." "There's no question here," Brown says, saying state has proven that. @KCCINews

Brown says the 9-12 stab wounds prove malice aforethought. "If that's not malice aforethought, I'm not sure what is." @KCCINews #bahenariveratrial

Is it just me, or does the defense look disinterested in the prosecution's closing? Oh never mind, maybe it's the look of defeat?

Element 1: Identification - Was it CBR who stabbed Mollie beyond a reasonable doubt?
10:38 AM · May 27, 2021·Twitter Web App

Element 2: Cause of death - Did Mollie Tibbetts die as a result of being stabbed? Brown points to the medical examiner testimony.
10:39 AM · May 27, 2021·Twitter Web App

Element 3: The defendant acted with malice of forethought. Brown points to the number of injuries and the brutality of injuries prove this.
10:40 AM · May 27, 2021·Twitter Web App

Element 4: The defendant acted willfully and deliberately with specific intent to kill Mollie. He tracked her down, he found her, he got angry and he stabbed her and he dumped her body. That is what the evidence is in this case, Brown says.

Look at this through the lens of commons sense. "When you hear thundering hooves think horses not zebras," he says.

The state will talk to them again, Scott says. The video, the confession, the blood and everything else points to one person and one person only.

Your job as jurors is to find the truth and do justice, Brown says repeating the jury instructions.
10:44 AM · May 27, 2021·Twitter Web App

Justice in this case is a verdict of murder in the first degree.

Recess and then we go to defense. Now, I am thinking that they jury might not get the case before lunch...

In my opinion, CBR helped the jury out by telling that fabricated tale. If he didn't do that, they would have many unknown scenarios to go over and it might have weighted more on them about him being involved. Now all they have to do is decide if they believe that crazy story he told and if not, he is guilty. I think he just made their job easier.

Why all the negativity toward the closing by the state? Not enough entertainment? Drama? Made for TV antics?? Maybe the defense will provide that......

Well their client certainly did *almost* everything in his power to make their jobs harder. The guy is a poor excuse for criminal let alone a human being. A state of defeat is the only logical response to the "defense" they've put up over the course of the trial. Let alone the piece de resistance....Sweater Ninjas....In Iowa....In July....That vanish into humid air.

This may sound weird, but the attorneys probably are actually disinterested. They don't really care what the prosecutor puts out in closing. They know what he will say. They already have scripted their own closing. Presentations at this point are pretty much on autopilot. The prosecutor will however listen closely to the defense closing to see if there is anything he needs to re-address.

Agreed. They certainly aren't as chatty with one another as I have previously seen them during the proceedings. Very little eye contact, not a lot of communication between the two of them today. Their closing should be..... interesting?
