Circumstances of Disappearance:
Knockel was reported missing to police in Dubuque, Iowa on November 26, 1990 after he failed to show up for work and Thanksgiving dinner with his family. He has never been heard from again. His wallet, watch, and shoes were left behind at his residence in the 2100 block of Washington Street but his maroon two-door 1981 Mercury Zephyr with the Iowa license plate number NBL923 was missing.

Despite searches conducted by police, both Knockel and his vehicle have never been located. His loved ones believe he would have never left on his own accord. Few details are available regarding his disappearance and his whereabouts remain unknown.

In November 1990, the Dubuque Telegraph Herald reported that Knockel last had contact with family members on Monday, November 12, and that Knockel’s car was last seen by a family member the morning of November 13, parked along U.S. Route 151 less than one mile east of the Dubuque-Wisconsin bridge near the “Welcome to Wisconsin” sign on the roadway’s south side.

Knockel, a lifelong bachelor with no children, missed his usual Thanksgiving dinner with relatives and they reported him missing the following Monday after he failed to show up at a job at the Swiss Colony mail order gift warehouse in Monroe, Wisconsin, Dubuque police told the Telegraph Herald. Police also said Knockel was last seen Friday, November 17, driving along a highway in Grant County, Wisconsin.

The exact date of Knockel’s official disappearance is unknown.

I have the impression that this gentleman of suicide... perhaps he felt alone, he had depression... he was happy on the outside but inside he was bad, devastated, he thought all day... ailments come with age, perhaps he regretted being single or not having children... maybe someone thought he had money, kidnapped him and murdered him for resisting...

In a news release, the Dubuque Police Department said the vehicle was found near the Hawthorne Boat Ramp, by a marine services company dredging in the area.

The 1981 Mercury Zephyr was found to belong to Paul Knockel. Knockel, 53 at the time, was reported missing in Dubuque on Nov. 25, 1990. The case has been open since then.

Police say no human remains were found.

i wonder if he or someone else pushed his vehicle in neutral into the water, or perhaps he somehow escaped the vehicle after landing in the water. confusing case.
