*Trial Continues (Day 4) (@ 9am CT) - IA - Sterling Daniel Koehn (4 mos old) (found Aug. 30, 2017 decomposing & covered in maggots in swing, Alta Vista) – only for *Zachary Paul Koehn (28) charged & indicted (10/24/17) with 1st degree murder & child endangerment. Plead not guilty; $100K Cash bond.
*Cheyanne Renae Harris (20) charged & indicted (10/24/17) with 1st degree murder & child endangerment. Plead not guilty. $100K Cash bond.
10/29/18 Update Day 1: After motion for change of venue argued again, jury selection has started. Judge will continue jury selection and rule on change of venue later. The jury was just sworn in. Opening statements tomorrow at 9am CT.
10/30/18 Update Day 2: Opening statements. State witnesses: 911 dispatcher for Chickasaw Co. State plays recording of 911 call Koehn made at 12:55 p.m. on Aug. 30, 2017. First responder from Chickasaw Co Rescue Squad/nurse, Toni Friedrich. Tina Shatek, postal carrier and former first responder who helped Toni Friedrich find the address. Jason Rosol, sheriff's deputy with Chickasaw Co. Chickasaw Co medical examiner/paramedic Jeremy McGrath. Sheriff Martin Hemann, going through bodycam of his interview with Koehn at the scene. Chief deputy Reed Palo. Palo said decision was made to do emergency removal on 2-year-old daughter, placed in foster care at the time. Jennifer Schreiber babysat children. James Thiele, agent for the Iowa Div. of Criminal Investigation unit. Trial continues tomorrow, 10/31.
10/31/18 Update Day 3: State witnesses: Iowa Div. of Criminal Investigation agent James Thiele. Brandi Harris, the grandmother to Sterling, Cheyanne's mother. Chief Deputy Reed Palo, back on stand. Friend of Koehn's (no name given). Next is a video depo of a witness who isn't available to be in court. Dave Nugent, Koehn's employer. Sheila Schroder, Dept. Human Services child protective worker. Iowa Div. of Criminal Investigation agent John Turbett. The State is playing audio of Turbett's interview with Koehn. DCI agent Chris Calloway is on the stand outside the jury. Said Cheyanne didn't like the thought of anyone else raising for kids. Said Cheyanne told him she was Sterling's primary caregiver, changed his diapers. Prosecutors said the statements shouldn't be put before jury. Defense wants to use it. Judge will rule on the matter later. Trial continues on 11/1.
