BOISE, Idaho - The judge in the case against convicted killer Bryan Kohberger freed those involved in the case to speak publicly about the case, lifting the non-dissemination order that's been in place for more than two years.

Judge Steven Hippler said that because Kohberger pleaded guilty, there's no concerns about publicity preventing his right to a fair trial.

Attorneys will be allowed to argue against that and also weigh in on whether documents would be released and redacted.

Hippler said he intends to go in order from newest to oldest when reviewing those documents.

Kohberger will be sentenced July 23rd in Boise.

BOISE, Idaho (KIFI)— An Idaho judge will lift a gag order in the Bryan Kohberger murder case. This order will permit those involved in the case to speak publicly about it.

Kohberger pleaded guilty to the murders of four University of Idaho students on July 2.

The judge said lifting the gag order does not mean the sealed document will be unsealed. He will determine after Kohberger is sentenced which documents will be unsealed.

Information in the document may need to be redacted due to the presence of personal data, such as social security numbers and dates of birth. He said it could take months for those to be released.

The judge will determine whether to unseal each sealed document after it has been redacted.

The Bryan Kohberger judge said today: “Even if a defendant waives the right to appeal, it doesn't mean they don't have the right to appeal."I spoke to the former Idaho Attorney General to figure out exactly what that means.

So, you're telling me, Matt, just to back to your main point,
there actually is a chance under this deal that he
could see the light of day again.

I think there's a there's a there's a good
chance he'll get a parole hearing
whether hopefully he's never given an
opportunity and and that the parole
boards in Idaho remain steady, you know,
but California, we've seen a huge shift
to the left.
Um and to to people getting
out and the legislator has the
legislator legislature has passed
multiple laws that make it easier and
easier for lifers to get out.

10:36 So, who knows what's going to happen in Idaho,
but that's the thing. LWAP is not his
sentence. He will get he he will have a
mandatory minimum time, I believe, based
on this math of 50, and it might even be
less than that if burglary is less. He’s
agreeing to the 10. But, you know, as I'm writing down the
math, and my math is usually wrong, but,
um, that's this is going to be, I
believe, a 50-year to life sentence
where he will do a mandatory minimum um,
where he will do a mandatory minimum um,
of of 50 less the bur potentially, but
he's going to be eligible for parole
hearing based on what I heard today in
court.

Steve Goncalves claimed that individuals involved in the investigation had informed him of this suspicion, which seems to directly contradict whatLatah County Prosecuting Attorney Bill Thompson said during the July 2 plea hearing during which Kohberger confessed to the four murders.

"People got so angry at what was happening in that courtroom that they would literally pick up their phone and call us and say, ‘This is what's on Bryan's phone. This is what he was searching. This was sexually motivated,'" Goncalves claimed during his appearance on the show.

He then added: "I don't care what Thompson said."

@HowardBlum

Steve Goncalves wants Kohberger to be required at sentencing to say names of the 4 people he murdered. I think Goncalves is right and Judge Hippler should insist as prerequisite for sentencing.
