IMO she went on SM and read all the comments about the first interview, and she was furious that people weren't believing their story, and were analysing their body language and reversing their speech looking for evidence that they were murderers!
After that, she didn't want anything to do with public appeals and certainly didn't want to talk on camera. It was just inviting too much scrutiny of her and VK.

When she finally did speak again, IIRC it was after they'd sent cease and resists letters to facebook pages that were accusing them of being murderers, so maybe she felt a bit safer. And she said the social media criticism has been the worst thing about the whole situation.

The social media criticism has been the worst thing about the whole situation? So JM turned this into being about her.
The worst thing about this situation is whatever happened to DeOrr and that he is still missing 7 months later.

To be fair I bet if you asked her she would also say all of that "searching" on the mountain was the 2nd worst thing. Who wants to go spend their weekends hiking around in the woods when life has so much more to offer? Luckily for her and VDK they don't have to keep going back up to that pesky mountain, you know now that everyone knows the game.

In all seriousness another case of expected vs. unexpected. Normal people with missing kids don't have lots of energy to worry about SM rumors, or hearsay in Vernal speak. Neither parent has expressed enough genuine emotion but I guess that's to be expected since they are the only suspects in their child's disappearance.

If my 2 1/2 year old daughter went missing today, I don't think I'd even think to log into social media for a very long time. The fact that the parents have had such an active social media presence since the incident is so odd to me. I suppose it could be said that they're on facebook to share missing flyers for DeOrr, but aren't there other people who can do that? I can't imagine sharing funny memes and whatnot while my toddler is missing.

It seems that IR is vulnerable to leading questions much like a child would be. Journalists know that and take advantage of wording questions in a way that prompts certain individuals such as mentally challenged or children etc will shape their answers accordingly. Whe the topic at hand here may seem relatively benign, it's actually leading things in the direction the journalist wants the article to go. Poor journalisn and an obvious bias driving the interview.

In the beginning of the interview when NE asks the open ended question, what have the last 6-7 months have been like for you, it doesn't really go like he wants. NE is no doubt expecting to get an answer about how stressful it's been after Deorr disappeared. Instead IR talks about how boring it is in Idaho Falls in the winter, and NE may have felt he missed the point somewhat.

The EMT bag was stolen. There were tons of S&R folks there and who but they would even know what an EMT bag is and what it contains. I posted these same thoughts before but seriously, not many people would even know what an EMT bag is much less what it contains. Most of us have never been attended to by EMTs or ridden in an ambulance and even if we have been, who the heck noticed their bags?

The parents didn't take the bag.

It was taken by a common thief out of the 300 who showed up to search.

Maybe the person that stole it didn't steal it for its contents, but rather because of its size and usefulness to transport something unnoticed. Perhaps it was highly visible inside the vehicle and an opportunity arose. It's hard to say one way or the other but I'm not ruling it out just yet... MOO

I still haven't been able to find the videos of the later interviews with the parents in the media thread. Does anyone have those links handy?

IR's account is the most independent of them all, as all the rest are family and in regular contact with each other (presumably), and can contaminate each other’s accounts. GGP may have some memory issues, according to the sheriff, so if he's not really sure what happened and when, he might be somewhat suggestible and his version could easily be influenced by whatever JM, VDK and the rest of the family were telling him at the time. The sheriff said GGP gets frustrated when he doesn’t remember and says yeah maybe it was like that.

IR said he hadn't heard from GGP all winter but he didn't really take any stance on whether GGP had heard from IR, whether he tried to call but GGP never replied or if neither one bothered to make contact. He said they used to go camping and fishing, did they normally do that during the winter?

I hope you're right and IR is going to be the star witness for the prosecution.
But even if GGP isn't consciously lying and isn't anticipating an obstruction charge, I don't think it's unusual that friendships change due to stressful life events . People who need extra oxygen tend to be in pretty bad shape and may not feel up to socializing much in the best of circumstances and GGP is elderly, lost a great-grandson, has had to deal with the police multiple times, and now his granddaughter is a suspect. The stress might have taken a big toll on his mental or physical well being , and dealing with friends or this particular friend who is a reminder of what went on on the trip might just be too much.

On the other hand, if he wasn't talking about the public, would he have used the words "the public"? He has no problem calling his friend Robert Walton when he’s talking about him in other contexts.

He mentions social media reactions in a roundabout way several times in this interview and Nate Easton brought it up explicitly, asking him several questions about people being suspicious about him.

Maybe just an expression of general helplessness? It must have been quite a surreal, helpless situation. At one moment you're an unknown entity camping in the middle of nowhere and the next moment people are speculating about wild theories about you on the internet, and there’s absolutely nothing you can do about it.

I don't think it's fair to draw the conclusion that GGP doesn't support telling the truth when we have never seen him or heard him give any statement and the sheriff has never said he thought GGP was lying, only the parents. He might be up to his neck in it , but it's not obvious to me, based on the information we have. No doubt he is not happy that JM and VDK were named suspects but I need to at least see the man and read a couple of quotes from what he said before I can state that he is intentionally covering for a murderer, or worse.

In the beginning when I first heard this story and the rumors about Grandpas health (which was solidified by SB to some degree) I immediately thought what an easy scapegoat he would be. I've stated this before but a close family member of mine has Alzheimer's and was very influenced by others and also got very frustrated when she was asked things she couldn't clearly remember, even before she was fully diagnosed with the disease. With all the theory's about abuse I'm now questioning if Grandpa had any signs of abuse? If someone harms a child it's not a large leap to the elderly. Especially if JM was his caretaker.

Do we have any idea how long VDK was absent from the campsite when he made his 911 call?

Have there been any MMS links confirming RW has dementia/Alzheimer's?

Not that I'm aware of. From my understanding even if he has memory issues he has not been formally diagnosed with it.

However in my own personal experience my grandmother had many symptoms of it before she was officially diagnosed.

This is a good question.
VDK: It was 2:36 when she called, and I was in the truck hauling down to the road, tryin' to get service, 'cause I didn't think one bar would get it. So she got very, very lucky. I was blessed that she was able to get service, 'cause I didn't th- I didn't wanna try and risk getting halfway through my talkin' to 911 and having it cut off. So I went down where I knew I'd get a little service, about a half a mile down the road.

So it sounds like he left in the truck as she tried to call 911. Assuming he was going about 40 mph, it would have taken him a little over half a minute.
At some point, the 911 operator says to Jessica, "Is your husband calling, too?" This is about a minute into the call. So this would line up well with the time he left, and the time he called.

In the early stages of dementia/Alzheimer's, instances of emotional outbursts and violence are common.
I'm not quite ready to travel down the mental road of RW being an active participant in the death of DeOrr, especially since he hasn't been named as a suspect, but I do think that's worth noting.

This case is so frustrating. I really wish we had a specific place to discuss SM here. Not a rumor free-for-all but a place to discuss actions taken by the family members & people involved on SM. There are things worth noting & would further the discussion. I understand it would be a nightmare to moderate. Even when I try to be concientious of the TOS I have found myself out of line a couple times! I understand the reasoning behind not allowing it & am not complaining, just sharing a thought. The SM pages related to this case are a disaster but I've also learned a lot from reading through them. Catch-22 I suppose.

The problem here is that it is said that JM's 911 call was last (at 2:28pm) with VDK being either 2:22pm or 2:26?

If it was just a minute between their calls, I don't understand why he couldn't wait the minute to see if Jessica could get the call in or not. They'd already searched for however long.

Anyway but it's an example of rambling that doesn't really make sense. He was blessed that Jessica was able to get service...why? because if Jessica hadn't been able to get service the 911 call would have been delayed by a minute until he called. And he didn't want to call and risk getting the call cut off because if the call got broken he couldn't then have hauled half a mile down the road to try again?

ETA:
If VDK called first it and help was already on the way it makes even less sense why he was blessed that Jessica was able to get service.

AFAIK driving 40 mph on that road would be extremely difficult if not impossible. Would be interested in hearing what others on this list from the area think. JMO

Agreed. I think he was probably away in his truck for a separate reason, and they'd coordinated to call at the same time, to make it look like he'd left to make the call. That's why they were so specific about the 2:36 timing.
Funny, my suspicions wouldn't even really be raised about his leaving in his truck if it wasn't for that weird rambling explanation about it.
