"Jessica does not know what happened to her son," their attorney Allen Browning told Dateline. "Sometimes she thinks he may be alive, sometimes she gives up hope. [Deorr Sr.] believes he was kidnapped [...]"

"I'm just surprised so many people are offering such bizarre possibilities; aliens and supernatural stuff," said Sheriff Bowerman. "Bigfoot has come up. It's, like, you've got to be kidding me."

I must have missed the Bigfoot / aliens threads ;)

If the parents think he was kidnapped why do they go up there searching?? And why, given they're both social media savvy, aren't they driving a massive viral campaign to find him? Or allowing a reward? Or as Vilt said "letting it go national". If you genuinely thought your child had been kidnapped you'd want his face on every telegraph pole and milk carton in the country. No?

Yes, two places (after the Stage Stop): a run-down station where the pumps were out and then Peterson Welding where they bought the diesel.

Jessica stated that they went to the Stage Stop first and Vernal went in to ask if they had diesel (and they told him to try the station down the road). I am confused because I thought they went to the Stage Stop to buy feminine products, first and foremost. Wasn't that the main purpose of the trip down to Leadore? Did they go to the Stage Stop twice then? First to buy feminine products and snacks and then again for Vernal to go in and ask if they sold diesel? Why didn't they ask the first time they were there and what did they do in between the two store visits? Or, did they get diesel first and then go back to the Stage Stop for (urgent) feminine products and snacks? Sorry, but it makes no sense to me and why has it taken a year for this detail about the diesel purchase to be publicly spoken of? It's been a rumor and topic of debate for a long time but was always omitted from any official (mainstream media) news release. Every news story has always said that they made one trip to Leadore and that was to go to the Stage Stop. Now we are told that they also made a stop for diesel in Leadore (in addition to filling up at in Idaho Falls station the evening prior)? Curious indeed.

I think LE was keeping that information that they knew about them buying diesel quiet, because the parents were initially lying about it, claiming the trip was for feminine products, etc. Which brings up the important question, what were they doing to burn up so much fuel. I doubt they ever believed they would need to refuel, because one would assume they would know if there was diesel available in Leadore, since GGP apparently knew the area. Jmo

If you thought your child was kidnapped you would also jump at the chance to approve a $20,000 reward being "donated" by a person you hired and trusted to help you find your son.

Well if you were not sure there was Diesel in Leodore even more reason to FILL UP in Idaho falls so you wouldn't run out of fuel . JMO A full tank would last quite a while.

speaking of Stage Stop - when asked by Chelsea Brentzel why no on else saw baby Deorr - this is paraphrased, but Jessica said something like 'he was in the truck with me the whole time when we got diesel', but at Stage Stop, he was 'in there running around the aisles, trying to figure out what candy he wanted, talking to everyone in the store, flirting with the clerk'

No doubt even if I felt the chance of my kid being kidnapped was at 1 percent I would do it!

it is really confusing, and curious, I agree -
here is what i got from the one year later special - it sounds like the primary purpose for going to Leadore was Diesel, but I have no idea.
Even reading what I wrote while listening to the news special, there is a bit of a discrepancy -
morning after they arrive-
Vernal, Jessica and Baby Deorr, go to Stage Stop
Vernal went in and asked if they had diesel,
lady told him to go to another gas station 2 buildings down

they went over there,
little man and Jessica stayed in truck while vernal went across street

*****this is the part that sounds a little weird - maybe it is just semantics, but why did he have to go across the street if they all 'went over there' ****

man said pumps were out but to go to Peterson Welding, they sold 'red dye' diesel
Vernal fills up truck,
they go back to Stage Stop to pick up snacks then head to campground

**Baby Deorr was with Jessica in truck the whole time they were getting diesel
***@ StageStop getting snacks, Baby Deorr was ' in there running around aisles, trying to figure out what candy he wanted, talking to everyone in the store, flirting with the clerk'

But, also in the last day or so wasn't there something about Jessica going to the bathroom at the Stage Stop and when she came out Vernal & Deorr were outside by the truck or is that somewhere else?

Well after watching that, I have a hard time believing he was never there, IR is quite believable, IMO. I still believe it's possible he was handed off to someone voluntarily. Or they just conveniently go down to the creek, so they won't be implicated and the person grabs baby Deorr while GGP's not paying attention. Then JM could have her carefree life that she apparently wanted, and no child support for VDK to pay.

I don't see why GGP would have been pacing along the ridge if there had been an accident involving him. He would have been clearly distraught and probably sitting down more or less in shock if something like that had happened. So did baby Deorr actually go with parents down to the creek, and something happened down there? Which means they're putting it off on GGP that he let him go missing, and explains all the deception on their part. Or maybe VDK was never down at the creek. I don't think I'm even making sense anymore. :banghead:

It sounds like they were all over that tiny town... up to four different places of business so far.

Yet no one recalls seeing DeOrr...

Can someone help me understand IR's timeline? His interview #2 is a little confusing. How much time passed between the four of them going to the fishing place, and IR seeing GGP pacing?

  • #274
Would it be difficult to pace with an oxygen tank? I haven't really been around anyone using an oxygen tank so it's difficult to visualize. I wouldn't think being around a fire would be safe but I could be totally wrong. TIA

I don't think IR did anything to Deorr but his memory seems selective, imo. I think he's covering for someone but I'm not sure who or what.

This comment about Kunz getting after Deorr has always bothered me. I wonder if he got too rough with Deorr then?

Yes, it's illegal in Idaho to operate a motor vehicle on the highway using red-dyed diesel. But Jessica clearly said that Vernal filled up his truck with red-dyed diesel?

http://tax.idaho.gov/pubs/EBR00060_10-06-2008.pdf

That part was surprisingly specific, I thought. Running red dye in an on-road vehicle is a big no-no and it surprised me that a retailer would knowingly sell it for on-road use. But I suppose it's an easy thing to prove or disprove and I'm not sure why that detail would be important when it comes to what happened to little DeOrr...

I have a creek near my home and if someone were up the ridge yelling, I'm not sure I'd hear them. And my hearing is not perfect, so someone would pretty much have to come down to where I was at to deliver a message if need be. Not sure how loud the creek is there though. But surely someone should have went and let him know I would think.

I agree, a noisy creek will drown out almost everything. That creek looks like it should be noisy, the way it's down in a fairly narrow little gorge tumbling down over the rocks. Somebody right down beside it, paying attention to what they're doing, probably couldn't hear shouting unless it was very close.

Wow- just catching up and my reaction to the 1 year missing piece was tears. The end when they asked what they would say to baby DeOrr really pulled on my heart strings.
The 2/3 parts of IR interview- he is so relaxed and presents completely different than his prior interview. I noticed he fiddled with something in his right hand for all 3 interview segments but overall he appeared candid and very believable. At the end of the last segment he seemed to inadvertently respond to a question, (not verbatim) after a year, what do you think happened- an accident? He seemed to start to say "probably" but changed and stated "possibly." It's possible I, like others, may read into these minor observations...but it's all we have.
I realize Klein comes on a bit strong but he is keeping "Little Man" in the spotlight which is likely his main objective. He has the liberty to be more free with sharing, unlike LE, which is understandable. This case is hard to swallow.

The creek couldn't have been too noisy as IR was able to ask GGP (who was pacing up on the ridge) what was wrong:

“I was down there fishing for a while and that’s when I noticed Bob was on the ridge pacing back and forth,” Reinwand says. “I asked him what was going on and he said, ‘Little DeOrr is missing,’ and I was like, ‘What?’”

Reinwand says Walton appeared stressed and worried.

“I walked up to the bank and I talked to Bob a little bit more about where DeOrr might be,” Reinwand says. “We looked in the camper, we looked all around the area and underneath the vehicles. I went up in the hills to where the reservoir was and looked around.”

http://www.eastidahonews.com/2016/07/isaac-reinwand-nothing-hide-deorrs-disappearance/

So we're back to CoverMeCagney's question: "Why on earth would the other adults not have shouted to Isaac first to see if DeOrr was with him? Surely that would be the first thing you'd do?!?!"

Unfortunately, SB stated that unless a viable tip comes in, or, DeOrr' body is discovered... the case is basically at a stand still. He also said, in the small town of Lemhi county, they don't use/have access to a grand jury, that's disappointing to me. IMO, if this was put before a GJ, it would go to trial, and I don't think I'm alone in that opinion.
