Do we know why they were traveling there? Do they maybe have a vacation home? I looked at Google maps as well and was stunned to see how remote the area is. I hope it's not a case of GPS leading them astray on a non-use road.
It was said they were attempting to travel to Silver City. That is a "ghost" mining town that does have some year-round residents, but there is no new building allowed - anyone living there has to buy one of the historical buildings (which are NOT cheap to update). It's popular with tourists from June to October. Since the road is closed there are few people living along the road up there outside of Silver City- I found one cattle ranch of 1800 acres and one log home for sale but there may be some cabins for hunters and summer vacationers even though it's snowmobile only this time of year. There is ONE road from Jordan Valley to Silver City. I don't know if it's marked closed but if you visit the website for silver city there is a giant banner warning telling people the road is closed after Nov. 1. Historic Silver City Idaho

So I don't understand- did they tell anyone that's where they were headed? Or were they actually going somewhere else and became lost? Would they have even checked to see if that road was closed? I mean, if they lived near there (relatively) I'd think they'd be aware.

Another thing...whether they did or didn't inform someone of their travels that day, did no one miss them for this extended time period? Was anyone looking for them?

Sorry if I missed any of this info previously, but it seems to me they were stranded for quite a while and from reading reports, no one missed Eric until his wife and child were found randomly.

In the initial posts after the wife was located, she told responders that they were attempting to go to Silver City when they got stuck. There is only one road from where they started to Silver City and it is marked closed by signage.

Seems very hinky to me. They were traveling on a closed road to a ghost town, the husband left after “4 or 5 days” (which is it?), then how long did the wife wait before hiking out on her own to the cabin?

The reporting seems a bit confused-

They were going to California and turned around, or going to Silver City?

The mother and baby were in a cabin or they were found in the car?

So I saw. Thanks. I was curious why they were going to Silver City in February. Sounds more like a warmer weather (tourist) destination. And especially if they were aware road was closed, which seems maybe they did not.

Maybe explains some info

Boise father missing in Owyhee Mountains, mom and baby take refuge in vacant cabin

JORDAN VALLEY, Idaho — After eight freezing nights stranded in the Owyhee Mountains, a Boise mother and her 10-month-old daughter are safe. The father, who went to search for help, is still missing.

32-year-old Eric Rose and his wife, who goes by Rose, were on their way to visit California, along with their baby.

The family decided to turn around for personal reasons, according to a family spokesperson, and tried to take a shortcut through Silver City. However, their Suburban got stuck in the deep snow along Trout Creek Road outside of Jordan Valley.

Rose found a cabin nearby and used a ladder to climb in through a window.

Rose traveled back to their abandoned Suburban regularly, worried that no one would know they were in the cabin, and finally on Friday, Feb. 15 they were found.

A miner, happened to be passing through on his snowmobile when he saw them. He brought them into nearby Jordan Valley.

BOISE, Idaho (CBS 2) — Owyhee County Sheriff's Office announced Tuesday evening that the search for the missing man, in the Owyhee Mountains, is suspended temporarily because of poor weather.

The 911 Coordinator for Owyhee County Sheriff's Office Christine Ballard said in a press release that the missing person search for 32-year-old Eric Rose has been paused.

Ballard added that, once the search starts back up again in the next few days, the focus will switch to one of recovery.

He looks like a happy fellow. :D Glad Rose and the baby are safe. I hope he's found a safe space to wait for help. Praying he's found alive and well.

It was a miracle the miner passed by, hardly anyone is on that road in a snowmobile in the winter. I grew up in the Pacific NW. There are years that road doesn't open until June. Glad the Mom and Baby are OK and praying for Eric. May he have found a cabin as well.

Can you just sign my name to your post along with yours next time? Our thoughts are identical. ;)

Sad. And I don't see a positive outcome here, just too darn cold this year. The cell phone is probably dead, if there is even cell service in the area.

Winter, don't travel if you don't have to. Stay on main highways, tell people your travel plans, keep emergency supplies in the car, including a shovel, sand, ice melt, and hand warmer packs. Literally, the back section of our SUV is full of stuff, and I never even go anywhere.

Does this statement sound odd to anyone else??

"The family decided to turn around for personal reasons, according to a family spokesperson, and tried to take a shortcut through Silver City. However, their Suburban got stuck in the deep snow along Trout Creek Road outside of Jordan Valley."

Boise father missing in Owyhee Mountains, mom and baby take refuge in vacant cabin

What sort of "personal reasons" would one have to try and drive through a closed and unmaintained dangerous road? Especially, with a baby in tow.

Its times like this that I wish (if he has perished) he could somehow know his wife and baby survived. I somehow feel he could rest in peace if he knew. I rescued a dog that once was very loved by his Mommy, unfortunately her ex went to her house and murdered her by stabbing in front of the dog, then when police arrived the man cut his own throat also dying that day. I adopted the dog, and often tell him I wish his Mommy could know I take very good care of him for her. Same thing here, I wish he could know. So very sad. My thoughts are with his family and friends that love him. IMHO

Idaho Dad Missing After Seeking Help for His Family Trapped in Snow: 'It's Not a Good Situation'

[...]

“On Tuesday the truck ran out of gas and thankfully a snowmobile rider found them yesterday 2/15/19. Mom and baby are ok, but Eric is still missing. “

She added to KTVB: “He told [Watson] he would be back in a few minutes and he never returned.”

[...]

“There have been a lot of questions and not a lot of answers and I don’t think we anticipate getting any answers,” Rose’s sister, Sara Ontiveros, told KTVB. “I think at this point we’ve made peace with it and we’re going to be patient and wait for it.”

Police announced on Tuesday that all access to Silver City is closed.
