Given that ER was on probation, would he have been allowed to cross state lines?

Usually, they have to get permission from their PO.

That is tragic. I just don't get the flawed thinking here. "Let's take a "shortcut"." In Idaho?! That is so senseless. Same as Montana, stay on main roads unless you know the area and where you are going. I would add that is probably a good idea, even in the Summer. Just too remote out here. Seriously, you have half a tank of gas, and you are leaving town for the next town? Fill up. It may literally be 1/2 tank of gas to the next town! And so many areas with no cell service.

What I don't understand and they are not explaining, they are casually saying how she went to the cabin. Did she decide to try and walk out after he did not return and happen upon it, it just seems off to me somehow. If she could find the cabin while I am guessing trying to follow the road or what would be the road covered in snow, why would he not do the same and find the cabin. If he did find the cabin you would think he would hike back and get her and the baby. At least they had some provisions and a heat source at the cabin evidently. I just find it confusing. IMHO

I'm thinking just this same way. How far is the cabin from where the car was stranded? Do we have that info? She did eventually hike back to the car, and she's carrying an infant with her so couldn't have been too far. Did she leave the car to search for him and happened upon this cabin? There is snow on the ground..didn't he leave any tracks?

So they just decided to go to California on the spur of the moment?

Do they have family in California?

A wild hair trip might mean a 4 hour weekend trip to the beach for me, but traveling that far with a baby in those conditions?

And what the heck do you tell your employer?

I don't know if they told anyone. They were missing quite a while and not sure if anyone even knew, or was looking for them. She and the baby were discovered randomly by a snowmobiler.

If you are on felony probation you can't even leave your COUNTY, let alone your state. <modsnip>

Please follow Websleuths rules:

The family of a missing person are considered victims. Sleuthing the wife of this missing person is not allowed.

Also, there is nothing in MSM to indicate that drugs are a factor in this case.

On Tuesday, Police announced that their search for Rose, 32, had become a recovery mission.

“The search area is expecting two new storms starting today and extending through the weekend,” police said in a statement. “Due to extremely unsafe terrain and inclement weather, the Owyhee County Sheriff’s Office is suspending the missing person search for [Rose]. At this time, the Sheriff’s Office now considers this a recovery incident.”

I watched that video...and I'm trying to stay within the rules here....but what proof do we have that that man was ever stuck in the car with them for days? Because man sits in car with wife and child for 4 days and then disappears and then wife and baby leave and immediately find cabin and stay there for days just sounds weird.

Am I remembering wrong that they were in the cabin for like 3 day so supposedly lost for 7? Why does the wife look SO excited and thrilled to be interviewed?

Looks like she tried to muster up some tears there at the end.

This article says they found the cabin together. I assume she and the baby stayed in the cabin and he left to look for help.

Different version reported initially. Dad left to go get help then wife found cabin and used supplies in the cabin to survive. Cabin owner grateful she found the supplies. Why would Eric walk out if he too found the cabin? I'm confused.

Dad missing in Idaho mountains after wife, baby found alive in stranded truck

Watson and the baby stayed behind in the pickup truck for a time, before they began walking through the forest and stumbled upon a cabin. The mother broke into the cabin through a back window and fed her baby with supplies found inside.

She was able to feed the baby formula by melting snow inside a pot to keep the baby healthy.

Watson did sustain minor frostbite.

The cabin owner says she is so thankful that they were able to make it to her cabin and use supplies inside to survive.

After a couple days at the cabin, Watson decided to return to her vehicle, in hopes that she would be more visible on the road.
