The 25 year old white male 5'7'', 220 lbs. was last seen wearing a BLUE AND GREEN JACKET. If seen, contact Bingham County Dispatch at 208-785-1234 or dial 911. Do not attempt to contact or approach the individual.

Man Missing from State Hospital South Previously Charged with Violent Crimes

Authorities continue to search for a man who walked away from State Hospital South over 24 hours ago and EastIdahoNews.com is learning more about his past.

Laithon Dallas Webb, 25, has charges against him pending from an alleged violent carjacking of a taxi in October 2020.

A judge ordered Webb to be committed to State Hospital South in November after finding him unfit for trial.

Webb is charged with felony robbery, aggravated assault, two counts of assault and battery on police and misdemeanor resisting arrest. Boise Police Department said in an earlier news release that on Oct. 27, 2020, officers came across Webb while investigating a stolen car .... At a hospital, police found Webb with previously bandaged gunshot wounds.

Webb also has a history of running from police in Utah, including an incident that resulted in an officer-involved shooting.

Forgive me. This is A HOSPITAL. Not a detention center. I imagined it as a psych center for the criminals insane.

Others have just walked off the grounds of this facility. I now get it after searching.

It's a state psychiatric hospital, and I would think that there's probably more than one security level for patients (JMO). It used to be called the South Idaho Insane Asylum and opened in 1886 -- four years before Idaho became a state.

State Hospital South is suspending patient visitation at this time due to COVID-19. State Hospital South in Blackfoot provides psychiatric inpatient treatment and skilled nursing care for Idaho’s adult and adolescent citizens with the most serious and persistent mental illnesses. The hospital works in partnership with families and communities to enable clients to return to community living. State Hospital South includes 90 psychiatric adult beds, 29 skilled nursing beds, and 16 beds for adolescents. It also maintains a statewide program to restore the competency of criminal justice patients.

As ElementalLaura said it's a psych hospital. I wondered too because I thought it was like Ancora. A hospital in Jersey where you are locked up! Not so in this case.

I read about another criminal just walking away from this facility, and they emphasized it is not a detention center. Ya just keep walking?

I'm very aware of Ancora. Hence why I'm confused. If this is a mental hospital, isn't there a requirement they prevent vulnerable patients from just leaving and killing themselves or others?

• subsequent high-speed police chase...one of the police cruisers bursting into flames

Authorities advise the public to not approach Webb and to contact police immediately if he is spotted
