Interesting that the son would want to declare her dead after only 3 years.

I know this happened in Idaho but the weekend of February 7, 1964 was historical in that a lot of the country was riveted on the Beatles arriving in the US and the Ed Sullivan appearance

This sounds like something happened to her after 2am IN her house. The neighbor saw lights and her wrap was there, so I would make a reasonable guess that she was indeed there. I would also make the reasonable guess that the man who drove her home was also in that house.

I wouldn't be surprised if she was dead in the early morning hours when he left (assuming he did leave before he came back). Either way, he returns to a conveniently unlocked door for breakfast (11am sounds more like brunch, but ok). He and his friend now have the opportunity to add their prints to as many logical surfaces as possible. He'd need to do that if his prints were eventually found inside but he claimed he only dropped her off, and/or wasn't positive he hadn't been seen. Now, his prints make sense because he was "invited back for breakfast," his friend's are there to muddy the scene and potentially confuse results, and Lillian is missing. I'd say she disappeared wearing her dress because she was still wearing it when she turned down his advances.

To me the question is whether he took her body out of the house in the wee hours, or left it there while he went home to sober up and get his accomplice to help him remove it in the late morning hours. I'd say he removed her in the wee hours and the friend may have truly thought he'd been invited for breakfast.
