HOWE — A group of emergency responders and local volunteers are searching for 73-year-old Michael Faller of Idaho Falls.

Faller went camping with his wife in the North Creek Road area of Butte County on Monday, Oct. 17, according to family spokeswoman Ashley Countryman. Faller went hunting and checked in with his wife at lunchtime on Monday and Tuesday. But he did not return to his campsite to check in on Wednesday.

When he didn’t return by Thursday morning, Faller’s wife left the area to contact the Butte County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities organized search parties and began scouring the area.

On Friday, searchers discovered Faller’s ATV off a trail. Shortly afterward they found his rifle, jacket and shirt leaning up against the side of a tree.

“But there was absolutely no sign of him, we have no idea what happened,” Countryman said.

Sheriff’s officials were unavailable for comment, but a Butte County Sheriff’s Office Facebook post confirmed the search is ongoing.

“The overdue hunter’s ATV and other items were located but no signs of the 73-year-old man. We have a sufficient amount of people on the search as of now and are utilizing all available resources at this time with weather permitting,” the post reads.

The family hopes that anyone who is in the area will keep an eye out for Faller. He would be wearing a t-shirt, thermal pants, camo pants and hunting boots.
Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Butte County Sheriff’s Office at (208) 527-8553.

Emergency responders and volunteers have been searching all weekend for a local hunter who disappeared last week.

The Missing Juvenile & Adults in Idaho group has identified the missing hunter as Michael Faller, 73, of Idaho Falls.

The Butte County Sheriff's Office posted via Facebook that Faller was reported missing last week in the North Creek Road area off the Little Lost River Highway north of Howe, a small community northeast of Arco.

Emergency responders with help from volunteers launched an intense search for Faller and found his ATV and other items including his jacket and rifle.

The search for Faller resumed on Sunday morning in the very rough terrain where he was hunting.

If you have any information on Faller's whereabouts, please contact the Butte County Sheriff's Office at (208) 527-8553.

HOWE — There is no sign of the 73-year-old man who disappeared last week.

Deputies from Butte County Sheriff’s Office and volunteers have been looking for Michael Faller of Idaho Falls.

On Sunday, search and rescue teams were out with a cadaver dog. Others on horses were also searching, according to family spokeswoman Ashley Countryman.

“There’s just no signs of him or even an animal if maybe he thought he had gotten one because he was hunting,” said Countryman. “There’s just no trace of anything.”

“There’s Just No Trace” of the 73-Year-Old Hunter Still Missing in Idaho

"“The update is we still have not found him,” Parsons wrote on Oct. 21, noting the search would continue the following day. “But we did find his four wheeler and his jacket and rifle leaning up against a tree by his four wheeler so we at least know a better area of where to look … "

It kind of looks like his jacket had another shirt hanging over it. I'm wondering if he got chased by wild life and that is why it's all left there. Or took it off in preparation for something?

I am confused by the way the article is written. He and his wife went camping but he left her at camp and went hunting? Only checking in daily at lunchtime>?

Yes, that is how I took it. When I was a child I would go with my grandmother and grandfather camping. My grandfather would leave us all day from the campsite and go hunting. I'm assuming Mr. Faller stayed out in the bush or something so he didn't have to make the trek back? But it didn't really say.

Latest update from the sheriff's office.

****Update****
The search and rescue teams today conducted an extensive search with K9 but no new updates. Snow came in heavy on them as they began coming off the mountain. Due to the snow, the search is going to continue this Saturday with several more search and rescue teams. We will continue to update on this thread as we can. We thank our community for their continued prayers for the family and friends as well as, the urgency to help in several different ways.

Oh, the heavy snowfall makes me sad!

I hope someone with drones will help them search!
