ID -Multiple firefighters reportedly shot while responding to fire near Coeur d’Alene

Officers in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, were seen leaving the area following the discovery of a dead man on Canfield Mountain with a firearm nearby, Alexandra Duggan, a Crime and Courts reporter for The Spokesman-Review, told CNN’s Erica Hill.

“We saw a ton of officers leaving the area as we got that news. Many are in good spirits,” Duggan said. She described officers as fatigued but supportive to each other, high-fiving and sharing meals.

Apologies for quoting myself.

So what I want to know is... was it self-inflected or did he get taken out?

You were bypassed for the job? Wannabe?
Or they felt firefighters were easier targets, less-prepared and less likely to be anticipating coming under fire than police.

As a former first responder, this makes me sick and angry. These men and women put their lives on the line for each and every one of us and deserve our respect, care/concern, etc. They should NEVER have to fear responding to a scene because some evil person has some sort of vendetta, wants publicity, etc. The extra moments that they now have to take before entering a scene could make the difference between life and death for someone truly in need of help. This is just AWFUL!

Seems like every mass casualty event starts off being misreported as multiple perpetrators.
I guess it’s better to assume there may be more than one shooter so responders are more careful, not taking for granted that just because one apparent shooter is down that there may not be more.

Yup. I never buy it because it’s very rare, and the initial confusion leads to people believing there’s more than one.

Here, he was likely moving around which gave that impression. Plus he was likely firing a lot of rounds, which would have further led to those firefighters thinking that.

They don’t know yet, according to the sheriff at the press conference. They couldn’t preserve the scene since they had to remove the shooter’s body immediately due to the fire approaching the body.

I thought I'd heard the sheriff mention the possibility of the shooter "running around" during the attack.

I absolutely agree with what you say. I also believe in what I wrote. I feel like everyone may respond differently and none of us can really ever know how we will react in any given situation. And I believe our responses will likely depend on what is going on within ourselves & our lives, family, health, community, etc.

Rest in peace to the two deceased first responders !!!!
Sounded from the article they were firefighters.

Two firefighters, one from the Coeur d'Alene Fire Department and another from Kootenai County Fire & Rescue, were killed on the scene. A third was also injured in the attack and is now 'fighting for his life' following surgery, but is in stable condition.

My god what a twisted individual who committed this act.
I am not sorry that he is no more.
Imo.
