A police update on the disappearance of 8-year-old Robert Manwill has been postponed while police investigate reports that a body has been found in the New York Canal near Cloverdale Road &#8212; about two miles southwest of the home police searched Friday night.

The New York Canal, which runs past Vista Avenue less than half a mile from the apartment complex that Manwill was reportedly last seen, feeds much of the Valley's canal system west of Boise.

At a little after 2 p.m., detectives were walking up and down the canal banks. A deputy was blocking access.

The Ada County Coroner is responding, according to the Ada County Sheriff's office.

I don't know about "sunshine laws", but court records are available. Sheesh, I should have saved the link I used. I was looking up the rental guy and found a drug case, a tobacco charge involving minors and child support orders.

ETA: Found it! Looks to me to be very rural. I am doing the street view.

The canal is very close to both the house they searched off of Five Mile and also close to the mom's apartment (the canal is many many miles long).

Five Mile is not too far from where the body was found. Vista (mom's apartment) is very very far from where the body was found. My thought was that it could be 11 days worth but the news people just said that a body could not get from Vista to Deer Flat via the canal because there are grates, etc.

Given the number of LE at the scene, I'd say it must be him. A "regular" canal drowning wouldn't attract that kind of attention, I don't think.

I guess time will tell. Lots more questions if it is him, though, like cause of death, etc.

The body of a boy has been reported floating in a canal near Kuna. Ada County dispatchers tell 670 KBOI news that they received a call around 1:30pm of the body near Cloverdale Road. Witnesses tell dispatchers they were able to retrieve the body from the canal. 670 KBOI's Greg Williamson is on the scene to gather more information.

Boise Police postponed a 2pm press briefing regarding the status of missing 8-year old boy Robert Manwill, due to the development of new information.

The canal runs from near the apartment yes...but...that's a lot of miles and if I remember correctly from living in that area there are grates so a body may not be able to pass through. It would seem more likely that a body entered into the canal closer to where it was found (IMO). I have not heard any report of any other missing child either...:-(
I am waiting like all the rest of you for any word but this sounds like it could very well be him and if that's the outcome lots of unanswered questions will still remain.

Why didn't she just call his father and tell him to come get Robert? Why??? He was only there for the summer. I'm sure the father would've came and took him if she would've told him she couldn't handle him. Was she getting child support from the father during the summer?

Oh and I believe this woman is invovled. i don't think she has covered for the BF I think she is just as guilty if not more than the BF. JMO

My heart is breaking for the father and the brother. May God help them throught this rough time, and bring them peace.

**when you look at the map.... the canal is south and east of the junction of stewart and Deer flat roads! A very isolated intersection I might add!

Maybe that is why the vehicle of the friend was stolen(hopefully the friend is truthful about that and not invovled). Maybe they took him and dumped (poor child)him further away from their home as to make it look more like he ran away or someone took him.

If this turns out to be little Robert (and I am almost certain that it is), I pray that Robert's father can maintain some control over Robert's older brother, Ken.

I fear that he might be a ticking time-bomb and the last thing this family needs is yet another tragedy.

after 1:30 p.m., police responded to the New York Canal in the area of Deer Flat and Stewart St. in the Kuna area. A male juvenile's body was found floating face down in the canal.

The Ada County Coroner is on the scene, and police say the person is dead.

The New York Canal, where the body was found, runs from an area near the apartment complex where Manwill was reported missing - and the scene where today's body was found, however police officials tell NewsChannel 7 it is unlikely the body would be able to get from one point to another.

There are several grates in the water between the two scenes that would generally block objects from passing through.

Dispatchers tell us no other children have been reported missing today.

A temporary command post is being set up in the area.

A press conference scheduled for 2 p.m. today was cancelled after officials indicated another lead developed in the search for a missing Boise 8 year old.

Ada County Sheriff's Office informed news media that the body of a male juvenile was found in the New york Canal near East Deer Flat Road in Kuna. Officials at the press conference indicated that incident is related to the search investigation for Robert Manwill, but would not give further details.

Manwill went missing from his mother's Boise apartment on July 24.

The street view of rural S. Cloverdale and Deer Flat Rd. reminds me of the same sort of terrain that Sandra Cantu was found in. The road at the street view looks so much like the road adnoid took pictures of while driving to Sandra's memorial.

I am going to give my precious granddaughter all the loving hugs and kisses that I can muster while I sit here waiting for more information.

My heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to Robert's family while they await any news on this development.

Me too. I am so blessed to be at home with my son, and know exactly where he is (playing the x-box before we do math work). I have a Dr. appt. for my diabetes and the stress of this case is not at all helpful. I can only imagine what the family is going through. I pray for them, and the body that was found.

I know I can be a "bad" momma by letting him play x-box, but if we're not out and about, I'd rather him do that than want to hang out at the liquour store with his friends (who's parents work). My husband tells me I keep him wrapped in cotton wool (he's 12). Yah....maybe I do....

I am also pretty sure this is Robert. Like another poster stated, there would not be this much attention for a canal drowning, which happens quite often around here. Praying for Robert's father and most of the rest of his family
