A passerby called emergency workers to report that they had seen a body in the canal near Kuna about 1:30 p.m. Monday.

very interesting... could have been someone walking along the canal.... "passerby" is very generic term???

Grates like this one are placed into the water throughout the canal - though this one was in the open position Monday afternoon.

Not sure if this has been posted, but this article shows a pixture of the grate it's the 3rd picture down in the article. So these grates must be removable...

Something else that's not looking good for little Robert.. in a couple of the articles so far they said "juvenile" in reference to the body. Clearly the body must have been quite small (such as Robert's size) for them to say juvenile so quickly. An older boy, perhaps as young as 15 or so, could be mistaken for an adult.

The canal was part of the search in it's initial phase with hundreds of volunteers (one picture even showed a volunteer pointing to what was eventually ID'd as a plastic bag on the bank of the waterway). It seems most likely it was taken to a relatively deserted area, possibly where there's high brush or trees (I street viewed different areas of the canal). As the organs decompose, they produce gasses that make the body more buoyant and even wind can more easily move the body to an exposed area of the canal. Sorry if I'm being graphic, but I really believe the boy's body was transported.

For Robert to make his way into the Canal system by himself it looks like he would have to cross highway 30 which looks fairly busy (at least during the daytime). If he was an adventurous little boy possibly but I haven't heard any reports about previous adventures - nah, not at night - nada, me thinks he was placed in the canal further down in the canal system:

When it comes to searching, I try to keep in mind what Tim Miller always says: Each area has to be searched at least 3 times or more because things are missed for a variety of reasons. I don't know what happened with the canal, but several posters have offered ideas on how this young boy may have escaped detection.

As for the little girl in OK, it appears she was found outside the search perimeter. That indicates they did not make the search area large enough at the beginning.... this must be a really tough call. She was two... how far could she go on her own? But anyway, it sounds as if they are going to review procedures to see how/why the area was not included.

Yes, I do think everybody should take responsibility for doing their job and doing it well - but in some cases, doing it well may not be as easy as it looks.

I do hope whatever OK finds when they review their procedures - they share it with the rest of the country and organizations like Equusearch, Klaas Kids, etc. in an effort to prevent such things from happening again.

I'm getting conflicting reports about the grates - first they said it was not possible for a body to travel from the canal by the apartments to where the body was found because of the grates but now they seem to be saying that it IS possible... so, not sure about that.

Wouldn't it be something if this turns out to be an accidental drowning after all this? (not saying no one's at fault, but certainly a much different scenario than what I've been thinking lately).
