Sad news.
Such enraging and desperately heartbreaking news. Struggling for words, I've been thinking of Zeke since I saw the alert. I'm so sorry for Zeke, his mother and their loved ones. How can so much be destroyed by the hands of one person.

How devastating :( I hope Zeke and Kali are at peace together now at least.

The healthcare system (especially the behavioral health sector) in the USA is horrific and grossly negligent in many ways, and there are so many more cases that we never even hear about of people harming themselves and/or others because they’re not properly evaluated and treated accordingly. This is a really tragic example of that. IMO, it’s unlikely that, if Jeremy was in such a state that he was wandering around and entering stores naked, he was able to hide it and/or manipulate the hospital staff into believing he was fine. Do we know if he was taken to a hospital that even has psych staff on site though? Wondering because I’ve been to a hospital without psych staff and they generally just have you talk to a regular doctor about your symptoms and tell you to go home and “keep an eye on it”. Which is another glaring issue with the whole system. I hate that this was the outcome. If only he had been kept at the hospital.

Edited for wording & clarity!!

Our first date was three days long. Dropped off on a dirt road in the middle of Grand Teton National Park. Moments later J bounded down the washboard in Ginger, his custom built rust colored VW Vanagon. It was love at first sight, me and the van. (You already know how I felt about the boy)
We late night hot springed, cooked steaks in bear country at midnight, got a flat tire with no jack. Instantly connected. I was in awe as he navigated hundreds of miles of backroads, the map solely in his mind.
It was the summer of 2009, I was 24 living in Wisconsin, absolutely smitten with a guy in Idaho.

Sad news.

Oh no. I think we all feared this outcome. Poor Baby Zeke.

As to whether JB could pass himself off as normal (at the hospital), I have seen it, many times. I'm always shocked at where the local standard for "danger to self/others" lies. Being naked in a store is a misdemeanor. It's not a threat to the lives of others. It's just typical...behavior of some mentally ill people. That's not enough to be put on involuntary hold in many places.

I sure do hope that JB wasn't thinking religiously (he's sending them to heaven, it's a good thing he's doing) but that's not an unusual perspective for a family annihilator: altruistic family annihilation is the term in the academic literature. Killer thinks the family is better off. May have an intense belief that he's sending people to a better place.

He will now be sent someplace where he, tragically and belatedly, will get specific therapies and treatments for his kind of mental illness.

IMO

This wouldn't surprise me. So sad though. It looks like his appearance from a while ago to the most recent photo, he changed a lot in appearance.

Why why why?

Why was he released from the hospital to go on and kill 2 (3) innocents and yet not kill himself?

Sick to my stomach. Absolutely sick.

MOO

Were there warning signs? Did she sense something was wrong? Or was this all of a sudden? Maybe he previously was diagnosed and stopped taking medication, whether accidental, intentional, or out of supply? Jmo

Right? I think so too. Grooming, demeanor, microexpressions, mood and attitude.

While it's true that some people drop the mask and become monsters after marriage, I don't get that feeling here. I was glad someone else posted it sounded "Covid-related" because I see a huge uptick in unusual/risky/bizarre behaviors various places, post-COVID. It could be the virus itself (which attacks some cells in the brain, causing irritation/new behaviors, IMO).

COVID is associated with new onset of psychosis (mixed features) in people of all ages, although research is still trying to figure out whether here is an age distribution. JB seems to have not had ordinary or concerning psychotic symptoms until very recently, doesn't seem like a genetically determined illness like schizophrenia or bipolar,

The amount of research on this continues to grow quickly - I'm a bit astonished. However, there are things we now know about the brain that could help explain it - but there seems to be no cure (palliative care through psychiatric medications, basically - but paranoid, psychotic people are very hard to round up and put into treatment, in our system).

This is Jeremy Best's business (address is the same as address in the Amber Alert.) Jeremy's Auto Repair. "Meet Jeremy Best, Your Local Mechanic & New Best Friend."

"When not in the shop J can be found snowboarding the deep powder, dirt biking the hills, soaking up the sun on his leisure boat, or cruising the backroads with his lady, Kali, & three dogs, in Ginger the Westy."

He definitely could have used some editing. Kali seem(ed) to be an excellent writer and could have helped. Sounds like a great mechanic and owned his own shop since 2003.

Idaho toddler is abducted by his suspect father who is 'heavily armed'

Kali Jean Randall, 38, was the mother of the 10-month-old and married to the baby's father Jeremy Best, police told Dailymail.com.
[snip]
Teton County Sheriff's Office said they received an open line 911 call from a residence at 4600 Skyline Loop in Victor, Idaho, at 11.39pm on November 30 - just before Best was last seen.

In a statement police said deputies were dispatched to respond to a disturbance heard over the line by the dispatcher. When they arrived they located a non-responsive female subject who was identified as Kali Jean Randall.

Her death is currently being investigated by the Sheriff's Office and the Idaho State Police as a homicide at the time, the statement added.
What is "an open line" 911 call?

What is "an open line" 911 call?
Typically that refers to someone dialing 911 but not saying anything. From the article, it seems the 911 operator heard a disturbance in the background and dispatched deputies.

I'm devastated by this news. Rest in peace Zeke and stay comforted in your mother's arms.

I think I'm even more sensitive to this kind of case right now (and am crying) because I had lunch with an ex-colleague of mine today. He is sadly missing his children as his wife abducted them to Lebanon. Thankfully she has not harmed them. And I wish so many (primarily male) parental abductors did not harm their children.

My friend, a wonderful person, has not seen his young children in 16 months. Canadian courts have ruled in his favour and there is an Interpol Diffusion notice out for his wife which essentially traps her from leaving Lebanon, which she is now unlikely to do for obvious reasons. My friend is so concerned for his children in light of the recent increased instability in the Middle East. And yet his hands are tied. Why do some parents seek to deprive their partners of their children??

Prayers for the baby … and so struck by this case, in terms of what we do not know. Watched the video of Jeremy naked at the general store with the cigarette; he was clearly in mental health crisis. Watched it wondering, is this a guy who had an unexpected and total psychotic break? Or is this a guy who was exhibiting signs of crisis for months, maybe years and Kali, who was a beautiful and evocative writer, either didn’t feel safe talking about this in blog/social - or was in her late 30s and had uprooted her life for the mountains and the man, and had had the baby of her dreams, and another on the way … maybe she was just so hopeful for the life her heart wanted that she averted talk of issues? (And who can blame her?!?) She writes like a published novelist. This woman had tremendous talent. I find myself deeply sad about this case at the same time that I pray for this baby … MOO, Jeremy does not have the psychological wherewithal to go on the rational run. I worry they are in a ravine or in water.
