GUILTY IL - 5 Gee/Constant family members murdered in Beeson, 21 Sept 2009

thanks joe, from your link:

Until Tuesday, the state's assertion was that Harris and his brother, Jason Harris, who also is charged with murder, came to the house to steal a computer and sexually assault Dillen’s sister, Justina. Some of the dropped charges included the sexual assault reference.

Others were different ways or theories to charge murder. However, many of the remaining counts are "felony" murder charges, which means that a person is guilty of murder regardless of whether they actually caused the death if the victims died during the commission of a forcible felony, armed robbery or home invasion in this case.

Also, some counts relating to Austin Gee are natural life eligible due to the child's age.

This will seal Chris Harris' fate. That stupid "Dillen did it" defense was really out there.

Good for Jason. Why spend your life in prison for standing outside listening to your brother murdering his in-laws.

The Pantagraph has a good article that keeps updating. Jason said he heard "Thud, thud, thud" and Dillen jumped out a window.... Chris chased and beat him with the tire iron he took inside.

Hideous.

Still freaks me out that Jason Harris was sitting on my couch one evening years ago. A cousin of his was our neighbor and they both came over to drink some beers with my DH. Shudder.

I am so glad he is going to testify. I hope his testimony will be that he saw his brother head into the house with the tire iron while he stood lookout and that neither of them saw or heard anything amiss such as screams or signs that Dillen was bludgeoning his family to death. (pfft)

The testimony yesterday just made me sick. Why has this taken so long... (yes I know). AND-- HOW IN THE H3LL CAN somebody (Chris) strike between 2 and 30 blows to each person??? The 2-blows was Tabitha, and she lived. Yesterday the defense said their client felt just awful that he didn't see Tabitha in the closet still alive.

Yeah, I bet. Thank God for the troopers who stayed by her hospital bed to guard her while Chris Harris visited. At least she is alive and now she is 7 or so.

I wonder, is Nicole still standing by her man after his brother finally told the truth?
If so, she would have to hate her family an awful lot.

Everything from day 1 to now is saved here:

Prosecutors put on testimony from a paramedic from the Logan County paramedic association as well as a volunteer firefighter and a Lincoln police officer who were able to describe the injuries suffered by the little girl on Sept. 21, 2009, when her family was attacked in Beason.

The photos were among the most graphic and gruesome yet.

Defense attorneys didn't object to a single photo nor did they cross-examine any of the first hour's witnesses. While their exact reasons aren't known, the actions clearly keep the case moving quickly and also keep the photos in front of the jurors for little time as possible.

Oyer described several blood stains and smears in the house, including evidence that at least one of the bodies was dragged into a certain place or position.

Jurors also saw close-up pictures of the victims.

The judge in the case told jurors they could take a break if the images became too disturbing, but the jury seemed to hold up well seeing those images. A few family members of the victims dropped their heads and covered their eyes.

This guy is being tried in the same court that Richard Speck was. I remember driving by in 1967 and seeing the crowds then but I haven't driven over to see how the interest in this case compares.

The bodies of Dillen Constant and his mother Ruth Gee were moved, possibly dragged, into the positions where they were found.

He [Oyer] also described blood under the Rick and Ruth Gee's bed, indicating someone had been under there and bleeding heavily before either leaving that area or being dragged out.

Noon: Crime scene expert Michael Oyer explained a photo depicting the outline of a blister on the palm of Chris Harris’ hand. The small injury was the only sign of injury noted by police 11 days after the Gee family slayings.

11 a.m.: The Gee's laptop computer along with a wireless card and Chris Harris' sneakers found with the tire iron were shown to the jury. The computer was damaged as if it had been run over by a vehicle, said crime scene expert Michael Oyer.

9:50 a.m.: Jurors are looking at the tire iron allegedly used to kill the Gee family. Crime scene expert Michael Oyer took the item found under a bridge near Armington from a sealed box and held it up for jurors to see. Jurors also viewed photos of Harris taken 11 days after the killings. The only injury on his body was an outline of a small blister on his hand.Â

9 a.m.: Michael Oyer is back on the witness stand to testify about evidence collected during autopsies of the victims. Samples from sexual assault kits, fingerprints and DNA standards collected from the victims are being introduced as evidence.

Pantagraph.com will have live coverage from the courtroom. Check back here throughout the day for updates.
