🤬🤬🤬 is at $35,000. Hope the donors sitting in jail find out. The monies coming anyway, but they don't get any of it. For some strange reason this gives me joy.

So much "druggie loser" talk. Just to me takes away from the fact these two are straight up torture killers.

Drugs are obviously are the main theme in these people's lives. But these people are violent criminals. Drugs didn't do that. In fact this "druggie loser" attitude I believe plays a part when child workers are dealing with these people. You have to deal with addicts everyday, you start becoming numb to their behaviour. House dirty? Well it's normal for "these people".... No. It's not normal and forget the "these people" label and hold them accountable to the same standards as non addicts.

As I was one of those kids with heroin addict parents, the "druggie loser" attitude, judgement, and label caused me as the child a ton of pain while in my parents care from others. A ton. Just another kid from some dope heads. Healthcare workers wouldn't report my dirty clothes... Just another kid from dope fiends. ... You have to break that mentality.

Just my opinion that I didn't word well. Just trying to shed light on how these workers seem to get cold and blind.
I'm very sorry that you suffered.

They get paid more from ADC and other social agencies per # of children. It's about $$ for her habit
So we are paying them to have babies....vicious cycle.

Thank you, but everyone has a personal hell and challenge to overcome in life! No matter what it is, no reason not to do your best. Have a good day!

I think it IS burns. The neighbor said he was burned on Halloween and went to the hospital for it. This was 6 weeks after Halloween. It's very likely the same healing burns.

Parents of missing 5-year-old AJ Freund charged with murder after Crystal Lake boy's body found in shallow grave

A neighbor who lives across the street from the Freunds’ house, Janelle Butler, said she first met the family when the boy and his mom came to her door on Halloween in 2017.

AJ had bandages on his face and arm.
She thought he was dressed as a mummy, but his mother said he had grabbed a pot of boiling water that day, was burned and went to the hospital for treatment.

This incident was only 6 months after AJ’s protective custody case was closed. Sadly, I’m sure there was more horrific abuse that went on that wasn’t documented or reported. And even if it was documented and/or reported it’s highly doubtful the abuse would have been “founded”.

What a crock of shat!

I'm sorry you suffered as a child. You sound as if you overcame and have a testimony to share. Thank you for that, we need to hear your stories.

Hello,
My first post, but have been following this case closely. IMO in conjunction with the DCF issues. I also believe that she was given some preferential treatment because of two points.
She clearly was a mess, but AJ senior could come across as the more stable one, knowing what to say to make the caseworker feel like if he is around the kids could be okay. He talks slow, deliberate, and is manipulative. His older looking manner makes him look like he would be on top of things, when in reality he is just as sick or more than the mother.

Also, messed up to say but her being a blonde, blue eyed woman she could continue to get the benefit of the doubt.

Clearly there was exteme / fatal decisions made by the system, but I do believe that her looks (crazy to say) coupled with his fatherly looking demeanor ( older gray hair) could have subconsciously impacted decision making.

It is so sad - so many people would have taken him and given him an amazing life. He would of felt warmth, affection, and love.

Poor sweet boy.

This was over a year later. One is 2016 and the other is 2017.

Not that it makes a difference, except that there was an extra year for AJ to suffer in silence.

I think this would have never happened if one or both of the duo did not have a drug habit.

The ER would not give a 5 yr old an Rx for narcotics, and she would certainly know that. If anything, opiate addicts certainly know how best to get fixes and with the tracking and reporting of opiate Rx, her showing up in a pharmacy would risk them calling LE. Besides, she was already injecting heroin. Heroin is very cheap and easy to get. Even if she could score a narcotic Rx, she could sell it and get much more heroin for the trade

Maybe she thought she could injure him and get an Rx for pain meds if he was in enough pain, but he would have been admitted if it was that bad.

I doubt she would risk going to the ER. I think it might be a big lie.

I question this story. The mother she told did not report it. I'm sure the hospital electronic chart was flagged to notify LE of any and all injuries. No report in CPS release.

Burns are extremely painful. Even at 5,,I feel they would have given some type of liquid pain med. My granddaughter broke her arm at 6 and they gave her a liquid pain med prescription.

Opioids are prescribed to children! An adult would need a higher dosage, of course.

And also FYI everyone, heroin is an opioid.

IMO, I don’t see how a child of A’s size lifted a pot of boiling water over his head.
Anyone? I can imagine an evil adult craving drugs desperately, pouring scalding water on him, racing to the ER, hoping he gets any kind of pain RX,
No dif than people we see injuring their dogs to get a pain Rx. It happens.

I think deep down I blame Child Protective Services even more than I blame the “parents”. They were the sober party. They have ONE ******* job and that’s to protect these kids. They didn’t have 1 chance to save this boy. They didn’t have 2 or 3 chances. They had 17 opportunities to do the right thing and do whatever it took and they failed miserably. I just wonder how this would have been handled in a minority populated and tougher community.

Respectfully, I disagree. Yes, addiction is a disease. But when you have children, have them removed from your care, are given support systems, rehab, etc, and you choose to decline that support, you have made a decision about your priorities. If a cancer patient was offered chemo and surgical treatment, but declined the offer, they made a choice. But in that choice, they impact themself primarily, not put a dependent’s life at risk. Plus, JC and AF may have treated the younger child well (emotionally), thus known full well the difference between cruelty and nurturing.

Yes, CPS has responsibility, but the parents own this. Their child, their responsibility, their tragic and unforgivable choices.

We know that children not in child care or school have fewer eyes on them when it comes to abuse. If they have an abusive parent/caregiver, they are often more isolated. People in their neighborhoods don't want to make a report for fear of getting involved or, in many cases, incurring retribution after the investigation. I would be great to have a public education campaign about the dangers of not reporting.

I think people often think they would call when, in fact, they don't want to or won't. I know I would call. I have. The first couple of times were excruciating and uncomfortable. I had to disclose who I was as a mandated reporter-- the parent that I called on came at me verbally at my place of employment three days later. That said, it is life or death for some kids if people don't make the report.

I think this is a great idea.

My mother was a second grade teacher at a Parochial school for many years. You’d be amazed how many times she was discouraged or outright forbidden to call CPS by the Principal or others in power. She would come home and call anyway. There was only one time a parent came to the school screaming, “How dare she...” My mother looked at her and said, “It’s your job to take care of your child. It’s my job to report it when you don’t.” The Principal was furious with my mother mainly because she was afraid the parents would pull the child out of the school which wouldn’t be appreciated by her bosses. Priorities.

Please don't tell me she has it easy in jail with her being pregnant. Anyone know what a typical day in jail would be like for her?

Bolded above...This is so true! When the Dr. at the hospital had the father come pick the children up was a big mistake! Because this father was older/lawyer they just assumed he was wiser, etc. BOTH parents put this poor little boy through hell!

Hopefully she’s being monitored 24/7 so she does not self inflict injury, harming the baby (more than she has).

Personally, I think she might be in the hospital. Unless the jail has a state of the art infirmary, staffed 24/7, I can’t imagine them assuming the risks she presents.
Of course a hospitalized inmate still shows as incarcerated. Moo

So they were at the hospital all day w/AJ, attending to his burn injury and then they go home and go trick or treating?!? Who does that? He had to have been in pain (or very drugged) and belonged in a CLEAN bed with nourishment in his tummy. He didn’t get that love from his Mother. I just don’t think she could bond with him. Ever. Well, obviously, right?

Who does that? Great question regarding good parenting. We all know a child having such a painful "accident" is in need of special nurturing and rest. Perhaps JC saw trick or treat as her opportunity to get free dinner for the boys. Marshmallows....maybe?

I live in/around this area. Through a friend of a friend who has spoken with neighbors nearby, it’s been said that little A.J. was almost beaten to death back in March 19’, by the mother. Notice also that her arrest has counts of battery but it states a March date also.

Or to atone. I’m sure he was prescribed some type of pain meds that she ingested, caring none about his anguish.
After getting in her happy state, she was playing nice. Jmo
Who knows, maybe she thought Trick or Treat meant drugs passed out to adults.
