Found Safe IL - Ben Amenta, 36, car found @ church in Jackson, MS, Flossmoor, 27 Nov 2021

Family members of an Illinois man are asking for the public's help in finding him after his car was found abandoned at a Jackson church parking lot on Wednesday.

Ben Amenta, 36, left his parent's home in the south suburb of Flossmoor, Illinois, on Nov. 27, agitated saying he was going to go to a coffee shop, Charles Amenta, his father, said.

The family reported him missing when he did not return six hours later.

Ben Amenta's car was found with a dead battery around 10 a.m. at Redeemer Church on Northside Drive. The last known footage of him was in Marion County, Arkansas, after he stopped for gas. His family believes his phone may be dead.

The distance from Flossmoor IL to Jackson MS is over 700 miles.

I wonder where could Ben be, it's been a week. Does he know anyone in MS?

I wish his father would have said what his son was agitated about.

Also, reporting someone missing after just 6 hours is a very short time. Obviously there was need for immediate worry. Was his mental health a concern? Was his phone off?

I am just now seeing this. I am very familiar with the area his car was found in and IMO this is not good, especially for someone who may be impaired/off meds and lost. JMO, as alway, but hoping and praying for the best.

I hope they are checking the homeless shelters and camps.

This is a bad area.The church is beautiful, but I am worried for him in this area, especially on foot.

He is likely (my guess) a member of the American Guild of Organists, which has a Chapter in Jackson. There are names on that website that may well lead to Ben.

He left home "agitated?" Would be most helpful to know about WHAT. 36-year-old leaving home voluntarily will likely not get much interest from LE, and could have picked up his meds at the local pharmacy as he was leaving for MS.

It seems odd to me that he was last seen in Marion County, AR yet his car was located in Jackson, MS. It makes me wonder whether he met with foul play after he fueled up or he had a specific reason for going to Marion County, AR then Jackson. Southbound I-55 would be a quicker, more direct route from Flossmoor to Jackson. MOO

Good catch. Like you, I wonder if it is a misprint. Marion of off I-55 would make more sense.

He drove. He was last seen getting gas in Arkansas and his car was found in Jackson.
