Family and friends of four missing suburban residents gathered to hand out fliers informing people of their missing loved ones.

Originally, the families of Stacy Peterson, Lisa Stebic, Bradley Olsen and John Spira planned to search for any trace of Spira.

He last was seen near North Avenue and Country Farm Road in West Chicago on Feb. 23.

However, the recent snow canceled the search.

Police investigate destruction of sign for missing man

Police are investigating the destruction of a billboard that sought information about a missing Maple Park man.

Bradley Olsen has been missing since January 2007. The two-sided billboard encouraging people to call with information about his disappearance had been at the southeast corner of Route 38 and County Line Road since November 2007.

Olsen's mother, Susan, and her husband, Bill, drove through the intersection on Friday morning.

"I looked over and I said, 'Brad's signs are gone,' " Olsen said. They pulled a U-turn on Route 38 and drove back to the intersection. "I'm just beside myself."

This is interesting because someone also destroyed the missing person sign for John Spira, another missing Illinois man.

Grand jury probes 2007 disappearance

As part of DeKalb County's monthly grand jury sessions earlier this year, investigators looking into the 2007 disappearance of Maple Park resident Brad Olsen put "several" witnesses on to testify, The Beacon News has learned.
DeKalb police Lt. Gary Spangler described the move as being another "tool" to sort out information gathered since Olsen vanished after leaving a DeKalb bar on Jan. 20, 2007.
It is not an indicator authorities were seeking a criminal indictment -- the most common job of a grand jury, Spangler said. The grand jury visits were spread out over "a few months," but Spangler wouldn't specify how many people were called to the witness stand.
"We were just trying to get some people locked into some statements," Spangler said Friday. "It wasn't done at this point to secure an indictment."
Olsen went missing after a night out with friends and was last heard from when he made an early morning cell phone call to get a ride back to Maple Park.

I received this via email and wanted to post for everyone.

It was 3 years ago last month Bradley went missing.

MISSING BRADLEY OLSEN

Dear Reporters & Journalists,

Next Wednesday, Feb. 10th at 1:30 p.m. in the DeKalb County Courthouse in Sycamore, Il. I will once again be going before Judge Klein on my quest to acquire a "Death Certificate" for my Son Bradley who has now been missing 3 years (1/20/07). I am doing this for the benefit of Bradley's young daughter(Name omitted for safety reasons), to be able to receive his Social Security Benefits that are rightfully hers. We have been in Court now since Oct. 15, 2009, at which time Asst. States Attorney Bill Engerman just stood before the Judge with no consideration or thought of providing for a young girl and simply kept repeating that he saw NO NEED for a "Death Certificate" that we would have to stick with the 7 year rule in Illinois. Hopefully, with further considerations of Judge Klein, next Wednesday he will rule in favor of granting the "Death Certificate" for Brads daughters benefit.

This has been a LONG and Heartfelt Journey for all of My Family, and with the help of the Dedicated Work of The DeKalb Police Dept., DeKalb County Sheriffs Office and the Neighboring Police Depts. and the Help of our K9 and Search Friends (which I will not name at this time for their Safety) we will continue to work on finding Brad's remains and Bringing Justice in the End.

Anyone that knows any little piece of information is asked to Please Call your Local Police Dept. or DeKalb Police Dept. at 815-748-8400. or write into Brad's site at www.findbradolsen.com. Every Day we get closer to solving this nightmare and Those responsible with be CAUGHT. We,re only ONE STEP BEHIND YOU..................

HELP US BRING BRAD HOME......(This could have been your Son, Brother, Uncle or Daddy)

Sincerely, Susan Olsen (susans telephone number redacted for WS post)

It’s not the first time unidentified remains have turned up in the three years since Susan Olsen’s son Bradley Olsen of Maple Park went missing from a DeKalb bar in the 1000 block of West Lincoln Highway. Each time she hears another body has been found, Olsen struggles with the possibility it might be her son.

“It’s very hard to go through that,” she said. “Your stomach just does flip-flops. A lot of anxiety builds when that happens.”

Olsen was told early on Wednesday that the remains were not those of her son, who was last seen in the early morning hours of Jan. 20, 2007, as he tried to find a ride home from the bar. He was 26 years old at the time of his disappearance.

SYCAMORE -- After more than five months of court proceedings and hearing delays, it took a DeKalb County judge just a few minutes on Wednesday to declare dead a Maple Park man who has been missing since 2007.

Sue Olsen, mother of the missing Bradley Olsen, said through tears that the family faced an unnecessary, dragged-out process to reach this conclusion.

This is so sad that missing men just don't get enough attention. My prayers go to the family that they do find the truth someday.

I think the answers are out there -- but finding the solutions requires tons of time, investigative expertise and resources that often require money. I still think there is something strange about the large number of young men who go missing after leaving bars late at night. Remember Chris Jenkins? The police automatically ruled "suicide" in his case, then after his mother persevered in finding the truth, they changed it to homicide. There are some murders that are so well executed that it seems they are committed by people with lots of experience doing it. Don't rule out the idea of a cult perpetrating abominable acts such as picking a young man or woman, drugging them, torturing them then drowning or otherwise disposing of them. To members of satanic cults, this would be equivalent to deserved pleasure -- deviance, perversion and violence are worshipped right along with their mentor satan. Never knew much about it until I made it a point to look -- now unfortunately I know. Sorry for the tangent, but -- even if only half of these cases are just accidents, what about the other half?

Moving thread to missing but not forgotten discussion since most posts fall under the discussion category.

Let's discuss Brads case. Where could he be? He called friends looking for a ride home, IIRC. 8 miles is a long walk, but a straight shot home and IIRC, this happened very close to Northern Illinois University. College town... who knows who might be lingering in a college town and for what reasons -especially if they do not belong there.. And who would notice? It is a college town after all.

Prayers for answers on Brads disappearance.

I currently live less than a mile from where Brad went missing in DeKalb, so this case (almost literally) hits home for me. It's been over six years now, and with a new job my commute takes me right past a large sign with Brad's face on it, a sign that asks "Do you know what happened to me?"

Brad's case is an intriguing one because we, the public, know so very little. Basically he went to a bar, tried to find a ride home from friends, then vanished into thin air.

Random abduction? (So where's the body?)
Someone out to get him? (So who were his enemies, if any?)
Wander off into the elements? (Not likely, not many woods in that area...there ARE woods right behind the bar but those were thoroughly searched in another case that happened after Brad's)

This is exactly what happened to Justin Gaines who vanished in November 2007 in Duluth, Georgia.

Sadly, his case is not solved either.
