Caitlin Tracey’s husband, charged with first-degree murder, makes first court appearance

Adam Beckerink, 47, was charged with first-degree murder in Tracey's death, but first served a 93-day sentence in the Berrien County jail in Michigan for domestic abuse against Tracy. His detention hearing was rescheduled for Friday.

In recounting her history of alleged abuse, Caitlin Tracey disclosed to a court-appointed victim advocate that her husband, Adam Beckerink, had previously threatened to throw her over a flight of stairs, according to prosecutors.

Weeks later, on Oct. 27, 2024, Tracey was found dead at the bottom of a stairwell in a South Loop high-rise after residents of the building found a severed foot in the stairwell.

Beckerink, 47, a Chicago lawyer, was arrested Monday and charged with first-degree murder in Tracey’s death. A Cook County judge on Friday ordered him held in jail while he awaits trial. His next court date is Feb. 3.

Husband of woman found dead at bottom of condo staircase pleads not guilty to charges in her death

The husband of Caitlin Tracey, who is accused of pushing her off a 24-story stairwell at a South Loop condo building in 2024, was in court Thursday.

During the brief hearing at the Leighton Criminal Court Building before Cook County Judge Joanne Rosado, Beckerink pleaded not guilty to new charges of concealment of homicidal death, making a false report to 911, and making a false report to a public safety agency as well as murder.

Beckerink, whose wrists were shackled, was wearing a short-sleeved orange jumpsuit and did not appear show any emotion. Tracey’s parents were in attendance.
