Why do I get the feeling TM's motive to kill Carrie to use her car for his trip to Minnesota?

Does TM have a sister that he was planning on using her car or was that too just a lie he told his new girlfriend in Minnesota so he didn't look like a loser with no car or license? If he has no sister, TM must of planned on using Carrie's car since the tirp was planned before Carrie was killed. He might have asked to borrow her car, when she refused he killed her.
