I didn't get a chance to see the live steam today from the beginning so I missed some of what the judge had to say. Hopefully someone will post the entire program to YouTube.

I'm so glad there is finally justice for Carrie. I feel so bad for her parents. I'm sure hearing the judge say he was finding McVay guilty was a huge relieve and some closure for them, but it will never replace what they have lost.

A Rock Island County judge listed point-by-point Friday all the problems he had with Timothy J. McVay’s version about the final hours with his ex-girlfriend, Carrie Olson. It was those inconsistencies Judge F. Michael Meersman said that led him to convict the 40-year-old Rock Island man of first-degree murder and concealment of a homicidal death.

“I’m not finding you guilty to make anybody happy,” Meersman said in front of a packed courtroom. “I’m finding you guilty because based on the totality of the evidence and witnesses, combined with the fact that your version to Davenport Police on Jan. 3 (2014) is misleading at best, and at worst just a flat-out lie.”

After Meersman pronounced his verdict, family and friends of Olson cried and hugged in the packed courtroom and in the hallway outside. McVay was quickly led out of the courtroom.

Olson’s father, Dave Olson, said he was “happy with the outcome” and thanked prosecutors, law enforcement and the community for their support before and after his daughter was found.

When asked if there are still questions about his daughter’s death, Olson quietly said, “I think we know the answers. I think we know the answers.”

The reason the cops knew where McVay was staying in Las Vegas after dumping Carrie's body in Minnesota was because her dad found the hotel.

"He was cold calling hotels all over Vegas," Stengel said. "He acted like he was looking for a buddy, and he found him at the Four Queens. He was doing everything he could do, and he didn't stop."

It is possible, without the Olsons' timely intervention, the surveillance video from a Rock Island gas station that showed McVay in Carrie's car would have been erased. Ditto for the video from the I.H. Mississippi Valley Credit Union that showed him trying to use Carrie's debit card.

Carrie's parents had no small role in landing a conviction against her killer.

But her parents made him pay. They cannot exact from him all that he took, but they got the last thing they had to hope for: Justice for Carrie.

Meersman sentenced McVay to 40 years, plus three years of supervised release, for the murder conviction; McVay was also sentenced to an additional, consecutive, five years in prison plus another year of supervised release for the concealment of a homicidal death.

Meersman said he was compelled to also let the public know what the sentence means.

"By my calculation, you will be at least 80 years old before you are eligible for parole in this state," Meersman said.

So many unanswered questions on this case, but I am glad he may never see the light of day.
I hope Carrie's parents can now have some peace.

Carrie's story will be featured on NBCs Dateline this Friday night. It will be the first story featuring someone who was featured in their "Missing in America" Series which they publish on FB and on their website.

Carrie Olson, 29, of Davenport, reported missing Dec. 30, 2013, after she did not show up for work. Her body was found on April 5, 2014, in a snowy wooded area outside of Hastings, Minnesota.

Ex-boyfriend Timothy J. McVay was found guilty of first-degree murder and concealment of a homicidal death in July 2015 and sentenced to 45 years in prison. Although an exact cause of death has never been determined, prosecutors suggested during a lengthy bench trial that Olson was suffocated.

Olson's dad was instrumental in helping to solve the case. His pressure for answers from McVay compelled McVay to lie, and this deception helped convince the judge that he was guilty, according to Quad-City Times archives.

Olson's dad also cold-called hotels in Las Vegas, pinning down where McVay went after dumping Olson's body. And it is possible that without his timely intervention, pertinent surveillance video from two businesses might have been erased.

The body of a naked woman was discovered under a pine tree in the Presley Circle suburb of Minnesota on the evening of April 5, 2014. The day was relatively warmer compared to the brutal and snowy winters in the area. As per Capt. James Rogers of the Dakota County Sheriff's Office, the body seemed to have been dragged to that location, given the position in which it was found.
