Found Deceased IL - Casey Koesling, 29, Chicago, 3 Dec 2016

  • #21
Can't sleep. It's 4am here in chicago and it's my
Day off and I can't help but toss and turn.
Casey had been missing since 12/3. He went and visited his fiancée DH and then left her, at the end of their visit, normal on all fronts...
Then went to the Western Union in a particularly bad neighborhood on the west side in an area known for heroin sales, and gang activity. His phone died shortly thereafter. His family was able to access his FB and didn't see any clues to his disappearance.

My question for more experienced WSers is, how was he missing for 18 days and only discovered Wednesday evening? Was he there the whole time? Police were able to identify him within roughly 24 hours (I don't have a specific time but found Wednesday evening and identified Thursday evening). Does that mean he only recently died? Or would fingerprints be obtainable even that many days later, if deceased since the 3rd?

I'm no expert, but imagine the cold may have had something to do with the authorities being able to it a in fingerprints after a period of time. I think the ME can probably determine an appx TOD.

Thanks cubby. We'll be hearing more about cause of death/manner of death this upcoming week - with the holiday and the backlog in the ME, they expect Tuesday or so before they know. Happy holidays to all of you who took a moment to check out caseys thread - thank you, most sincerely

So sorry, Caustic. I expected a different outcome, thinking he was on a bender and would show up eventually.. 😞. Worst possible news.

Just came across the birth announcement of Casey's and his fiancée's second child from Sept 2015...So there's a child not even 1.5 years old, a newborn and another little child without their father now. So very sad...

Yes, and a daughter around 5/6 (I'm
Terrible with remembering dates). Prior to addiction, Casey was the nicest guy you could've met. He successfully completed a treatment program via Will County and was interviewed for the newspaper/tv about his journey. As a friend who is married with kids, I wasn't privy to the day to day intricacies of his life and a few months ago a mutual friend showed me the arrest in the west burbs for paraphernalia.
I was heartbroken but wanted to believe it was marijuana paraphernalia - denial is strong with me!

I pray that his fiancée has successfully beaten her demons and can move on healthily for the kids. Addiction cannot steal away both parents, please god!

since he was missing from that area possibly the family supplied dental records. its also possible he had not been deceased the whole time he may have been on one part of that time.

im very sorry for the loss. heroin is the devil.
