Trying to word it more pc ... maybe benefits-challenged or parental-challenged ?
Can't say much more except it looks like Kyle was severely neglected and possibly abused.
How can that woman call herself a 'mother' ?

I'm with you -- I just now watched the videos, and now I'm much more inclined -- at this stage -- to be dubious about all of it. He may have started the fire, but I wonder if he was only aiming for one person to be hurt, or to simply scare someone. The remark reportedly by Kyle re his stepfather, "If you won't do something about it, I will," does make me wonder.

I want to see, as we all do, I'm sure, what LE has on him to make that decision about him and about a 1st Degree Murder charge -- not involuntary manslaughter (is there something like that in Illinois?) or a similar lesser charge.
For me, this has gone from unbelievable to just plain sad and confused. But I can be convinced otherwise, but I haven't seen any proof for it yet.

What's really strange is four videos uploaded the day after the fire, April 10, 2019, where KA and his mom look perfectly fine, like nothing happened. KA and a girl pretend to be news reporters and show the burned house and ask for likes on their Youtube channel. One says "if you're sad for us, subscribe. You can see our address and come see the fire."

I was 100% behind something really nefarious going on in that house and either KA acting out to hurt his abuser and accidentally hurting other people, or someone else being behind the actual fire and KA taking the blame for it (a la munchausen by proxy).

But what if they meant to set the fire as a prank for Youtube? Recorded it like a shock video? The way KA and the little girl are narrating and saying they are news anchors showing the house ONE DAY after the crime occurred... doesn't seem like they're surprised? There is a lot of shocking stuff on YouTube. Both genuine fire/rescue/911 type videos and also kids and young adults performing ridiculous pranks that can seem real (or are real).

In the April 10 video, where the kids show the house roped off, it's not completely burned down. A lot of the house is standing. Why couldn't JW get out? This is a 34 year old man who couldn't walk 15 feet across a small trailer or bust out a window? Was he passed out or locked in somewhere? I completely understand how an elderly woman and three babies couldn't escape. But why could KA and KA escape completely unharmed, not a hair burned or one scrape, but JW is dead from smoke inhalation? I am no expert but I was reading studies on smoke inhalation today and everything said it takes between 2 minutes (close proximity to a fire and a compromised person) to 20 minutes to actually die of it. This wasn't a 10 story office building burning, it was a tiny trailer that's only half burned in the pictures. What really happened?

EUREKA, Ill. — The mother of the child charged with murder and arson for the Goodfield mobile home fire that killed five is now under a gag order.

According to a source who chose to remain anonymous, Katrina Alwood was ordered to appear in court Friday afternoon at the Woodford County Courthouse. An attorney requested the gag order a few days after Alwood spoke exclusively with CBS News when her 9-year-old son Kyle was charged with five counts of first-degree murder, two counts of arson and one count of aggravated arson earlier this week.

It is currently unclear who ordered the gag order.

Kyle was accused of intentionally starting the mobile home fire that occurred in April after the Woodford County Sheriff’s Office, Illinois State Police, and more area departments deemed the incident a homicide.

The fire took the lives of five people; Woodford County Coroner Tim Ruestman previously said the victims, all members of the family, died from carbon monoxide intoxication.

Arrest warrant, yes, that would be very informative. I would really, really like to see that.
Oh I’ve been searching from the beginning. I can’t find it. Then I thought - I don’t see the words arrested in any of the articles that I can recall. Charged is the word I see. I cant find an affidavit either. Nor a State Fire Marshall report. I do remember - he was taken into custody. Some sort of custody document available? Who would issue it?

According to Woodford County State’s Attorney Greg Minger, the child was not in custody as of Tuesday morning. He would not provide specifics on the juvenile's gender and current whereabouts, as Minger cited privacy restrictions involving juvenile crime suspects.

According to the Illinois Legal Aid Online, if the juvenile is under 12 years old, police can only hold him or her for six hours.

The fire was April 6th. so it was a few days later... but still completely agree with you on how they act. But yes, all is VERY strange. And in her current interviews she states one 2 yr old died in her arms... so that has changed. Supposedly Boyfriend pulled her out of the trailer, yet she was holding a 2 yr old, and then another interview states she was at the window and heard them screaming and then 'they were gone'. So multiple stories now being told.... thus i'm sure that is why a gag order now in place.

DCFS took custody of the boy shortly after the fire, and he was placed into a foster home, according to an agency spokesman.

The 9-year-old is now both ward of the state and an accused murderer.

State law doesn’t allow children under 13 to be sentenced to state facilities and doesn’t allow children under 10 to be held at county facilities.

The state’s Department of Children and Family Services opened an investigation in wake of the deadly blaze and has since taken custody of the suspect. The agency has been in contact with the family on 13 different occasions prior to the fire.

Alwood managed to escape with her life... Everyone else was sleeping, she said, and she was only able to save herself.

“I stood at the window and I told my kids I was sorry I couldn’t save them. Mommy was right there...I loved them.”

No arrest warrant is to be issued for the suspect, Minger said. He wasn’t certain about the minimum age threshold for imprisoning a minor.

The suspect is to be appointed an attorney and will subject to a bench trial, in front of a judge, according to Minger. No jury is to be empaneled.

Katrina Alwood started a fundraising page in May to help raise money to legalize ownership of her family's van.

"On April 6th at 11:55pm I lost 2 children under 3, my 2 year old niece, my fiance love of my life, and my grandmother in a tragic mobile home fire and I lost every thing," she wrote on the ? page. "The only thing i have left is the van that we shared and I'm almost completely out of time to get it legal or there gonna tow it and I'll never see it ever again and i cant lose no more."
...
A major challenge for prosecutors will be trying to prove the child formed an intent to kill in advance, which is required in first-degree murder cases, explained Gus Kostopoulos, a former prosecutor-turned-juvenile defense lawyer in Chicago.

In the article above, it says,
"No arrest warrant is to be issued for the suspect, Minger said. The suspect will be appointed an attorney and will be subject to a bench trial, in front of a judge, he said."
So, there is no warrant -- I'll stop looking. SMH. So I assume Kyle wasn't arrested...
Frustrating.

Do sleeping people who die of smoke inhalation scream for some time first? I mean that I thought that was one reason people die in house fires while still asleep is that the toxins in the smoke cause unconsciousness before finally causing death.

Also, KA allegedly went out a window during the fire. If he intentionally lit the home on fire, why was he inside of it? In the beginning of the video with the girl where they pretend to he news reporters, KA says something about her pushing or pulling him out the window? I couldn't quite understand what he said. Where was she during the fire?

Those people weren’t working. They were probably living off SSI for their three disabled kids. Since the oldest had been also recently? diagnosed with severe mental health issues (which aren’t close to apparent in any of the videos I’ve seen of him), they were able to get SSI for him as well as the two little ones. .

Same here. I saw an intelligent, sensitive, creative, techno-smart, smiling, curious, little boy whose words/narration, etc., were certainly at least at age level. Certainly we didn't see him 24-hours a day, but we did see him at different times and in a place outside the home. <shrugs> Dunno.

Well the earlier article posted on this thread somewhere claimed JW did get out, then went back in to get the children and died. But the story seems to be changing (the latest article claimed everyone else but the mother (and presumably Kyle) were sleeping so JW and the rest didn't get out because they were sleeping) so I don't know anymore.

Okaaayy... So why is she changing the story from JW "ushering" her out of the trailer ?
Btw, "ushering" someone does not sound like the type of wording KA would use.
But whatever.
Imo.
