The death of Diamond Bradley, 16, is being investigated as a homicide, the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Sunday evening after an autopsy on a body found early Saturday afternoon along County Road 850N in Granville Township.

Bradley had been last seen alive about 10 p.m. Tuesday and was reported missing Wednesday. Foul play was not initially suspected when Spring Valley police sought public help in locating her, the LaSalle News Tribune reported at that time.

Sunday’s brief release from the sheriff’s office did not specify why homicide is now suspected. Nor did it state any results of the autopsy.

There certainly aren't many details about this case. Hopefully more will be forthcoming.

Other than saying they were investigating the death as a homicide, authorities remain tight-lipped on what happened to 16-year-old Diamond Bradley

Grandma Rosie’s in Spring Valley announced Sunday on Facebook it will be offering a cash reward for information leading to the arrest of those…

“Whatever’s in the press release is all that I’m saying at this time,” Putnam County sheriff Kevin Doyle said tersely this morning. “I understand the need to know more, but I have a job to do here. I’ll release more information when it’s time.”

There's just too many young girls/women being murdered these days. It's almost like there's a war on women. I'm sick of it. What in hell is going on, and why?

Richard A. Henderson, of Standard, was charged with concealment of a homicidal death.

Authorities believe Henderson met Bradley on the internet and the two agreed to meet the morning of Jan. 24. Henderson picked Bradley up near her home in Spring Valley and drove her into Putnam County. At some point, Henderson stabbed Bradley to death, the sheriff's office said.

Henderson was linked to Bradley through an investigation that included tracking Bradley's cellphone and the use of surveillance cameras

Hopefully some justice will be done.

A final status hearing was set for July 19, followed by the Aug. 6 trial, although those dates are subject to change based on how the case proceeds.

HENNEPIN — An Aug. 6 trial date was set Thursday in the Putnam County case in which a 26-year-old Standard man is charged with concealing the homicidal death of Spring Valley teenager Diamond Bradley in January.

But if Richard Henderson is eventually charged with murder or other crimes in connection with the 16-year-old’s disappearance and death, he could wind up being tried separately for that at a later date.

Aug. 6 trial scheduled in Putnam County homicide-concealment case

A jury trial in Putnam County for 26-year-old Richard Henderson of Standard is supposed to start August 6th. Henderson’s lawyer lost his argument that his client’s 120 day right to a speedy trial ends on June 5th.

Henderson’s trial date for concealment of homicidal death has been pushed back to October 1. Lawyers agreed to a delay to study DNA results that have recently come back. Prosecutor Judd Mennie says the DNA includes crime scene evidence in the death of Diamond Bradley.

Delivery of DNA evidence might result in murder charge
Prosecutor says additional charge likely before Aug. 30

July 26, 2018

"Public defender Roger Bolin announced during a Putnam County Court hearing Thursday that suspect Richard A. Henderson is waiving his right to a speedy trial regarding the charges of concealment of a homicidal death.

Henderson, 26, is charged with the Class 3 felony and is being held on a $1 million bond. He's the Standard man whom investigators believe killed 16-year-old Diamond Bradley, of Spring Valley, six months ago and left her body along a rural Putnam County road.

Bolin stipulated the agreement was only for the period of Aug. 6 to Oct. 1, when Henderson's trial is scheduled to begin. He's previously argued the state has exceeded the 120-day limit of the Speedy Trial Act, and his motion to dismiss the charges will be decided by Judge Stephen A. Kouri at a hearing at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 30...."

Richard Henderson charged with murder of Diamond Bradley

HENNEPIN — The Standard man accused of dumping Spring Valley teenager Diamond Bradley’s body in a ditch in rural Putnam County last winter has now been charged with murdering her as well as concealing her homicidal death.

Richard A. Henderson, 26, was arraigned on three counts of first-degree murder Thursday as Putnam County grand jury indictments were unveiled during a court hearing.
[......]
Henderson pleaded not guilty to all counts and was scheduled for a review of the case next week. He remained in custody, with his bond doubled from $1 million to $2 million.

A trial date, meanwhile, remained up in the air, largely because of lingering issues involving speedy trial standards on the concealment charge.
[.....]
Authorities said Henderson and Bradley first made contact online and then agreed to meet early on Jan. 24. They believe he picked her up near her home, drove to the rural location and killed her soon after arriving there.
[.....]
Barring the dismissal of that charge, an agreement reached between the lawyers during a recess Thursday would formally set the murder as well as concealment charges for trial on Oct. 1. But both sides anticipate changing that at a status hearing on Sept. 13, Bolin and co-prosecutor Bill Elward of the Illinois Attorney General’s Office told Kouri after the discussions.
[.....]
Kouri accepted that general plan but set a review date next Thursday (9/6) as well after urging the parties to try to reach an agreement on the date sooner. He reminded them that a lot of behind-the-scenes preparation would have to be done if a trial were to go forward.

“I think we probably have to send out notices to jurors before Sept. 13,” Kouri observed. “I’m going to put this on the calendar for the 6th as well as the 13th so you can notify me if you have an agreement.”

Henderson is being held in the LaSalle County Jail, which is common in some Putnam County cases. He would have to post $200,000 cash to be released.
