I'm afraid to read the entire article.
Why? Why do these types of crimes happen again and again?
If I live to be 1000, I will never understand how people can be so inhumane.
I hear ya. I just don't get how people can be such soulless bastards. I'm not surprised that a disability check was one motivation here. The "care takers" who look after disabled peoples' money really need to be screened. I know of several cases where people took the checks and made the disabled live in squalor. That shouldn't be happening. I called one instance in myself. Surprise, surprise, nothing was done. The poor woman had a nervous breakdown and was hospitalized. Finally, the truth got out and she was moved. It shouldn't have come to that. This lady and her baby shouldn't have died. Some days, I don't like people very much. :behindbar

Right? Plus this same neighbor has legal custody of the 12 year old? Am I reading that correctly at the bottom of that article? Then Riley's sister sure is speaking up NOW! Good lookout. They oughta charge that neighbor with something. You witnessed this mcuh worse than a horror movie behavior, but did nothing, period?

Banished to the basement, the 29-year-old mother with a childlike mind and another baby on the way had little more than a thin rug and a mattress to call her own on the chilly concrete floor.
Dorothy Dixon ate what she could forage from the refrigerator upstairs, where prosecutors say housemates used her for target practice with BBs, burned her with a glue gun and doused her with scalding liquid that peeled away her skin.
They torched what few clothes she had, authorities say, so she walked around naked. They often pummeled her with an aluminum bat or metal handle.
Dixon six months pregnant died after weeks of abuse. Police have charged two adults, three teenagers and a 12-year-old boy with murder in the case that has repulsed many in this Mississippi River town.
"This is heartbreaking," police Lt. David Hayes said. "It was almost as though they were making fun of the abuse they were administering. This woman was almost like living in a prison."
Investigators put much of the blame on Michelle Riley, 35, who they said befriended Dixon but pocketed monthly Social Security checks she got because of her developmental delays.
Dixon saw little, if any, of the money, Hayes said. For months she weathered the torment to keep a roof over her head and that of her year-old son, who weighed just 15 pounds when taken into state custody after his mom's death.
"I've never seen an almost conspiratorial effort by a group of people to continuously torture someone until she finally died, then not really show any remorse," Hayes said. "It was just a slow, torturous, tragic way to die. I highly doubt Dorothy Dixon even knew she was dying."
Riley, 43-year-old Judy Woods and three teenagers, including Riley's 15-year-old daughter, LeShelle McBride, are charged with first-degree murder, aggravated and heinous battery, intentional homicide of an unborn child, and unlawful restraint. Riley's 12-year-old son is charged as a juvenile.

I don't understand how people can hurt other people. Does someone crying out in pain or screaming or being tortured do anything to these people? I am so mad, disgusted, hurt, and heart broken now... I read the article & I just want to throw up and beat the hell out of this big nasty b*tch. She made her rub her disgusting feet until she fell asleep? I am so mad.

I find satisfaction in knowing their Hell has just begun. They will have to live in a society that will make them pay for what's been done and a God who does carry out his vengance and justice everytime.
I'm so glad her little baby was rescued, for I believe he would have been and was a target also. Wonder who the stand up bio father is, had to be someone visiting and had access to the house. The way this Riley woman is described by many that knew and witnessed her behaviors, I wouldn't be surprised if she didn't make one of the males in the house force themselves upon Ms. Dixon. Riley was that sadistic and evil.

This is horrible. People can be so mean that's it just unbelievable. IMO they should also be charged with the death of the baby she was carrying. As for the neighbor what a loser to see the abuse and not call LE. Where was her sister during all of this? I guess she never called her or checked on her? So many questions! This is just too much for me to understand how cruel people can be.

I can't bring myself to open the links to the article. I've only read everyone's posts.
This has got to be one of the saddest and most cruel things I've ever heard of. What is wrong with some people? Are they born to be evil and then breed and pass it on to their offspring? I will NEVER understand this type of cruelty.

There was another case here in Texas where a group lead by an older female, along with a couple of her kids and their friends (if I remember correctly) did the same thing to a mentally handicapped man the older woman had seduced. She's on death row.
