This case has been hotly discussed this past year by locals but charges have finally been laid against the now former deputy. 18 year old young man walking alongside the road was run down by a then deputy with the Carroll County Sheriff's Department after a night of drinking with dispatcher Amy Hubble and other department staff celebrating someone's retirement.
Rather than stop or assist the young man, they began to concoct their cover story. After Jackson was dead, they reported via a non emergency line having "found" his body by the side of the road. They went on to "decline" to testify at the inquest, resigning their positions within the department prior to the conclusion of an internal investigation.
Jackson's death has been ruled a homicide. His DNA and fibers from his swim trunks were found un the underside of Herpstreith's vehicle. Locals have been pushing for answers and accountability for a year. I am glad Jackson's family will see justice.

Carroll County Coroner Matthew Jones used DNA evidence, video footage, phone calls, police interviews, witness testimony under oath and an autopsy to show the jury how the people who found Kradle’s body may have been the ones responsible for his death.
Kradle, who had recently turned 18, died from blunt trauma to the head after being struck by a vehicle in the early morning hours of July 28 on Illinois Route 78, about one mile north of downtown Mt. Carroll.
