District Attorney Pamela L. Casey of Blount County took to Facebook to share new details regarding a recent case where a woman was arrested for the negligent homicide of a child.

Pamela L. Casey

I will post one time on this topic and then we will let the criminal justice system run its course — all persons are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

1. All traffic homicides are presented to the grand jury. ALL. All non attended deaths are presented to the Grand Jury.
2. Criminal Negligent Homicide is a MISDEMEANOR. It does not allege someone intended to kill anyone. It alleges criminal negligence.
3. Traffic Homicide Investigations are in depth investigations that take months and review multiple types of evidence including the black box of the car that records the vehicles actions , involve interviews of the driver and any witnesses. It also review phone records, etc. A State Traffic Homicide Investigator, after his investigation, makes recommendations for any charges
4. Per reports at the time of the wreck- the deceased was not secured in a child restraint. THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO EVIDENCE the child was ever secured in her seat that morning.
5. A Blount County Grand Jury composed of 18 persons reviewed this case. A vote by the grand jury takes places without anyone in the room- including the DA.
6. The work I do is not easy. I didn’t sign up for the job because it is a walk in the park. My job is to seek the truth. In all cases. I think my record proves that. . In fact- people who know nothing about the case or heard from their neighbor’s friend and the other neighbor’s sister’s friend that the child unbuckled herself which is not supported by anything revealed in the state investigation. Those people- have been out right sad with their comments. But, doesn’t bother me a bit. The longest serving DA in the state once said- if you do this job right- half the people won’t like you.
7. I am prohibited from getting on tv or fb and telling the public every signal fact in the case until the case is resolved. Lord knows many times I’d love to say- well, the truth is …… but I cannot.

I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and may God Bless you all.

This case is very controversial. Many are coming to the defense of Karley, saying the investigation into the car crash got it all wrong. Waydee supposedly unbuckled her seat belt while the car was in motion.

The DA is being heavily criticized for bringing the charges.
