Respectfully, I disagree. The family has spoken when there was a calculated decision by the family and LE that it'd help the investigation. We are eager for insight, but the family doesn't need to perform in public for our entertainment. They owe nothing more to the public than cooperation with LE.

The family released video clips early on to reach the kidnapper, the ransom note writer, and their mother and to plead for help from the public. The clips accomplished LE and the family's goals. But at tremendous cost to family members. Every twitch or tear, or lack of it, was dissected as implicating or exculpating family members. Their words themselves were parsed for possible hidden meanings.

The family statements came at tremendous costs to family members. AG, who is not a celebrity like her sister or hardened military like her brother, who is coping with a horrific nightmare, and who is parenting a young child, the subject of intense speculation that she is a murderer or enabling a spouse who is. The family was harassed night and day to the point they were forced to leave the comfort of their own home at a time when they needed that familiar refuge

If appropriate, I am certain the family will speak out again. Not because we'd appreciate insights into family dynamics or to attest to their agony but because LE or the family believe conveying a tailored message publicly at that time will be helpful to the investigation.

I am well aware that they must be suffering and I don’t want to see a performance by anyone. I wanted to see “real” not performing. And not because I need it. I thought their mom might see it.
And as I understood it, AG’s child is a teenager and not a young child. SG’s children are young. And just because CG was military at one time, it doesn’t make him hardened as you suggest.

I have seen no coverage of the family being harassed at all. I also saw they are renting a home together, away from the investigations into their mom’s home and AG’s home. It would have been a nightmare for them to stay home while LE is investigating inside.

So there is no disrespect on my part.

Some relief for the beseiged neighbors! The gauntlet of vehicles slows emergency response time to everyone living nearby. MSM is likely to be considerate. But there are at least some among the people with cell phone cameras who fancy themselves journalists who are intrusive, unsavory, noisy, and create sanitation problems by discarding food containers. Restricting the immediate area to one-way traffic and the media to foot access will reduce some safety concerns.

While everyone is bashing the sheriff and hoping that the FBI plays a bigger role, I gotta wonder how much state law enforcement is involved?
To the best of my knowledge, each state has their own police and criminal investigation division. Generally, this is the chain of command if local resources are not enough. In Texas, we have the Texas rangers and DPS Troopers. I'm sure AZ has something similar. Keep in mind that this is a "state case" first and foremost.

If and when the perp is caught it will be the State of AZ vs ______.
It won't be Pima County vs ______.
It won't be the United States vs __________, unless federal charges are filed.

Just wondering how much state resources are involved?

LE had finished processing the scene about 9 to 10 hours before the Amazon delivery driver delivered the package to the door.

I still haven't seen proof of who exactly put the APS card on Nancy's front door or exactly when.

So, respectfully, it is just your opinion that they let people recklessly roam the crime scene.

Once the scene was processed and released it was basically a free for all. That is when BE recorded footage at Nancy's front door.

LE had released the scene early Monday, Feb 2 (assuming 20 hours of processing after noon or so Sunday, Feb 1) but the first of the ransom notes was received Monday afternoon, Feb 2. Since the ransom note (although delivered other than at NG’s home) may have been connected, it seems reasonable that LE would consider it evidence potentially related to the initial crime (breaking and entering and abduction, at least) and so would re-close the crime scene and revisit the site with that new mind frame. And things that may have escaped detection as relevant evidence with initial processing (the loose pile of Lantana at the front door of a meticulously-maintained home and landscape and evidence of a bit of the same tucked behind the camera mount, the camera atop the roof of the guest house, consideration of the possibility that NG’s car may have been used) would not have had to wait until Google managed to recover video previously thought lost and unrecoverable.

And given the ransom notes (indicating a perpetrator potentially attempting communication and manipulation), it completely defies reason that the Amazon envelope delivered after processing sat there inside the front entryway so long. What if the contents were sent by the perpetrator - possibly using NG’s account having been ordered when inside NG’s home? (Maybe LE did check the Amazon order and knew it was unrelated…but if not, why not open it?) And, given ransom demands indicating potential communication and manipulation by the perpetrator(s), why wouldn’t LE also be collecting and considering any mail delivered to NG’s mailbox (maybe they were…but seems likely not considering the house remained released.)

Totally. Cannot get my head around such an idea. I’m sad there has been no resolution in this case thus far and my prayers are still with Nancy. I don’t need to see the family publicly grieving as I cannot imagine what good could possibly come from that and I will never judge their choices regarding the ransom. IMHO, there are way too many professional retired detectives discussing and dissecting this case at every turn on television and with hundreds of social media posts, proclaiming they are experts. They know nothing about the real investigation and I can’t watch the news coverage another moment. Whatever the outcome, NG’s family is broken forever, hundreds of people have worked tirelessly around the clock, and we do not know the details for certain…and we may never. I’m just going to extend my sympathy to NG’s family and be grateful that so many have worked tirelessly to find her and pray she is brought home to her family. I appreciate all the updates here. IMHO

IMO, as important as contamination of evidence is MISSING evidence because LE potentially forms a premature theory of the crime that may be wrong. So, the scene is processed and evidence gathered with that prejudice as guidance.

We don’t know who AB’s single “impeccable” source was for the theory of the case she posited early on. But if LE working this case, that might be an indicator that a premature theory guided early investigation and that associated “tunnel vision” resulted in inadequate detection and unfortunate loss of usable evidence. So that LE is now having to work harder in the search for evidence that will lead them to the perpetrator(s) that is not dependent upon any potentially contaminated evidence.

ETA: I am agreeing with you here about early release (and potentially inadequate scene processing) and contamination impacting prosecution, but expanding to say that it ALSO impacts the continuing investigation to solve the crime before there ever is a charge to be prosecuted.

The Sheriff sent some evidence to Florida, which he has a relationship with, but I feel Federal offices could have returned results faster. So much distraction as well, so maybe once the Press and ambulance chasers are out of the way, they can focus better. Only LE can decide when a case goes cold, and this one is not at all close to that. MOO

They had already collected all of the evidence before the scene was released on Monday morning February 2nd.

A crime scene is released when LE have secured all necessary information, notes, and evidence.

They didn't know a ransom note was going to be sent the evening of the date they released the crime scene.

I am critical of them for releasing the crime scene when they did - only because they didn't know if they were going to be successful in recovering the door nest cam footage. Keep in mind they didn't recover that footage until about 10 days later IIRC.

Couldn’t agree more. Saying a case is going cold after just 3 weeks is not even close to true in my opinion and does nothing helpful for us still interested in following it. Both the local Sheriff department and the FBI are still working (as far as we know) basically around the clock on this case and in no way are they anywhere close to giving up on finding Nancy, alive or not IMO.

Anyone who has been following missing cases for years and years will know that 3 weeks in is basically still the very beginning of the investigation process. LE is surely holding most of what they have close to their vests and is just putting out into the public the info that they think could possibly help find Nancy or the perp. I’m not giving up on Nancy yet. MOO

Per the link the neighbors did not know what was going on with the large response.

Only the neighbor knows why they called but I feel confident that it was made out of pure concern and love for Mrs. Guthrie and her family.

The neighbors have been quoted expressing their love for their kind, friendly neighbor NG.

Questioning repeatedly, publicly, when a neighbor has already been outed as the caller, and pressing for why a neighbor would call is disregarding the privacy of NG and the confidentiality of a citizens report.
