Search for missing student under way

[...]

Gabe is majoring in art theory and practice in the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences. Given the dangerously cold temperatures gripping the Chicago area, we wanted to alert the Northwestern community that he has been reported missing and to ask you for your help. Please do not put yourself at risk by going out on your own into the frigid temperatures to search. However, we would be grateful if you could be on the lookout for Gabe, and ask you to share any information that could be helpful in the search.

The article states he uses public transportation including the Metra - both the South Shore and the Metra trains aren't running today. Evening rush to run without South Shore, Metra Electric trains; more than 1,800 flights canceled

That may have impacted his ability to get home and with no phone perhaps he couldn't call. Hopefully, he is just staying with a friend until it's warmer to travel With minus 50 wind chill this morning we aren't leaving our house. I've shared with my husband's friends that live in his area. Hopefully, someone will spot him.

The mayor is having "warming buses" put on the streets for the homeless to keep warm. Hope he finds one of these, at least, if he is outside.

If he is in and around downtown Chicago there are a lot of places to go to stay warm. I'm hoping he is just silent due to the breakdown in the trains running and having no phone.

Still nothing in the local news, and his cousins are sharing all over the place on Facebook. I have a book signing in the city today and am going to pass out his poster. He should have been in touch with family by now.

@GraceG are temps improving now? I read it should get better by Friday/Saturday. Is it?

I just refilled the bird feeder. The thermometer on the deck said 24 F. Definitely warmer but not what I would consider comfortable. It's probably colder near the lake shore (we are in a village about 9 miles West of downtown).

Search continues for missing Northwestern student
Authorities are continuing a search for a Northwestern University undergraduate student who went missing Tuesday morning as a dangerous cold snap enveloped the region.
Northwestern Police announced Friday that they would perform an extensive search for Corona over the weekend. The search will include more than 200 buildings on both Chicago and Evanston campuses.

Foul play is not suspected, Glew said, but he added that the dangerously freezing temperatures in the area means “there is great concern for Corona’s safety.”

Wind chills that day were minus FIFTY. No gloves, just a jacket and jeans? I really fear for this young man.
