Vicky’s brother Ronnie and her sister Phyllis are having a Celebration of Life in Cincinnati on Saturday for Joanne (Vicky) Smith. Then, Vicky will be sent home to South Carolina to be laid to rest by her family.

So much care and compassion by all involved in bringing Vicky home to her family. She was very much loved, that was clear. RIP beautiful lady.

Rest in peace sweet Vicki. She was only 20 and adopted which made this identification super tricky.

Her brother started a fundraiser for bringing her home

Now the family of Vicky Smith knows her fate. Originally named Diane, she was adopted when she was young and renamed JoAnn "Vicky" Smith.
She went to Princeton High School and Scarlet Oaks and attended Southern Ohio College. She worked at a Mariott. She also sang in the choir at Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church.

What a thing to wake up to... One of the first Doe cases I followed. I'm SO pleased Vickie has her name and history back! Here's hoping her relations can have her laid to rest in a more familial place.

Rest peacefully now Vickie.
May your killer be identified and held accountable for your senseless death!

Authorities said it wasn’t just the lack of high-end DNA technology that stalled the effort to identify Smith but the fact she was adopted and appeared to change her name several times. The only other piece of information was that she worked as a housekeeper for a Marriott Hotel ahead of her killing, her family said. According to CBS, her remains will be placed with that of her deceased parents
