Found Deceased IL - Jake Cefolia, 49, jogging, car found, SVP of United Airlines, Chicago, 6 Aug 2020

I was looking for this too. I'm wondering if it pertains to the bottom of page 10, under Calls for Service Related Incidents.
Noted there are occurrence dates of 8/6 00:00 through 8/8 00:00. Since this call was for a missing person, the 8/6 date might refer to the date he was last seen, rather than a separate call for service. Although I might have missed a reference to an 8/6 call elsewhere in the document. MOO

I think it could be this as well.

Yes, I'd say that's it! Great point about the timing.

Going by your timeline (thank you for putting that together!), and if it's true police made contact with him on the 6th, it would have been yet another potentially significant event that would have occurred somewhere in the midst of these:

Aug 6- ?? Watching his kids acc. to ex-gf (WR) source incident report
Aug 6- 12:00pm Co -worker (JT) spoke w/ him for work
Aug 6 - 2:30 pm - Last time GF#2 (DG) spoke w/ him via text. She sent more texts that day and 8-7 w/ no response.
Aug 6- 5:30 pm. Missed meeting with Realtor (MJ) ( home was under contract) (Thursday evening mtg) (incident report)
Aug 6 -6:30pm to 7:00pm Co-worker (JT) at Jake's house
Aug 6- ? to 8to8:30 pm His son had dinner with him at his home. Intoxicated

I think that was 8/6? Or I may be missing where you see that?

So was his last conversation with his son something that alarmed the boy's mother?
Seems that could be the event that triggered
the call to police.

I see it now! I remembered glancing through and seeing some conflicts then wanting to work them out in my mind, and couldn’t find it again! Sometimes printing documents and reading hard copy is better! That is key, and needs follow up too. If true, that would be *after* his vehicle was found, likely. As it was run by Sheriff' at 1:13 am. I hope crimeonline follows up on this.
A link in the patch article directs to a copy of Elmhurst PD's report on Jake's disappearance. It looks as if the investigating officer asked Chase and USAA Banking for the info. There's no mention of a warrant or subpoena.

Elmhurst Missing Man 'Fantasized About Going Off Grid': Police

snipped from page 14-

Contact was made with Pieter Post, a regional investigator with Chase, to see if the missing person had used this credit card since reportedmissing. Post was able to supply me with documentation showing that Cefoiia had no activity on his credit card since August 7th, with the last transaction being at the Sheil Station in Elmhurst, 218 E Butterfield Road.

On 08/12/20, contact was also made with David Gamez, an investigator with USAA Banking. Gamez relayed to me that Cefofia did have anaccount with USAA, which is an active checking account that appears to be used for automatic bill payments and not for daiiy use. Gamez alsorelayed that there have been no large cash withdrawals in the past 7-10 days.
A couple things mentioned in the incident report sound like they *could* have been followed up on. I wonder if there will be more information coming or another FOIA.

ex-
1. The statement where he says he attempted to call Illinois tollway to get ipass info but offices were closed till Monday.

2. The conversation about who had run the plates within the sheriffs office and why or what prompted. They were going to check on that.

Also, I’m curious why no contact by LE was made or mentioned in the incident report to United or Jake’s boss? Why just a co-worker who actually reported to Jake?

Wonder why other statements hadn't mentioned contact on 8/8 with son. Wonder if it was a entry error by the officer writing up the report.

Fascinating if it wasn't an error and he did speak on 8/8.

I agree. If I am looking at this correctly and it is not an error, then his son spoke to him after his car was first spotted near the FP in the very early hours of August 8th.

Is the son old enough to drive? If Jake was intoxicated August 6th when he was having dinner with his son, how did his son get home?

Yes, I did finally see that. Linking our quotes and discussion on it.

I’m just going to put these two sources together.

If it is not a mistake and Jake left his electronic devices at home, how did his son have contact with him on 08/08?

perhaps a pay phone

perhaps a pay phone

I don't believe there are any pay phones left in the area, but if there were phone records could indicate the location of the pay phone.

  • #356
Couldn’t he have used a prepaid phone? I’m wondering if it was possibly a typo. I would think it would have been reported if the son did in fact speak to him on the 8th.

Why is he selling his house? Jacob W. Cefolia | 454 South Rex Boulevard, Elmhurst, IL 60126

I know that his girlfriend broke up with him. I think that she lives in San Francisco, and Jacob lives in Elmhurst, IL.

He wanted to reconcile with her and visited her on her birthday (8/4?).
Was he selling his house to move closer to her or for some other reason?

Sorry if this has been discussed.

JMO.

He was probably selling the home because of his decrease in salary due to covid. Better to sell than foreclose.

I think Jakes boss would have been too difficult to reach, think about how many people he oversees.

As for the follow up with I-pass, once his car was located perhaps they thought it was no longer necessary?

Does anyone know where the golf outing was to be held? Is the FP along the route to the golf outing? I'm wondering if he was drinking earlier in the day, maybe he stopped to relieve himself at the FP and isn't far from where his car was found.

I would like to know if the bodies of water have been searched with sonar.
