Found Deceased IL - Jake Cefolia, 49, jogging, car found, SVP of United Airlines, Chicago, 6 Aug 2020

Still can't find the referenced tweet.
It's a tweet mentioning his Twitter handle. If you search for @cefolia on Twitter (be sure to include the @ symbol) and order by "top" (the default) it should be there within the first half dozen results.

Hope you are ok and hoping that the last part of your statement is true for Jake.

I do think if he was able to continue with his job without problems then he would be able to plan a disappearance as well. Would be interesting to hear from co-workers if anything was noticed. Typos, being late, intoxicated etc. But, we’ve heard nothing of the sort- only from ex-wife.

Also, I can’t say with certainty he lived a “well-off” life. He was newly divorced - that costs. He drove a Range Rover yes, but we don’t know the details behind that. Was it partially compensated by United? His home was sparsely decorated. It does not exude financial comfort IMHO. So, I don’t know. But, quite possibly that doesn’t matter to him- maybe travel matters more.

Also, Jake is no longer on United’s org chart. Does he have a replacement? Or was his job going to be cut? Company Leadership | United Airlines Holdings, Inc.

Also, anyone ever looked at tweets Jake was “tagged” in? Personally I see what can be interpreted as a threat in one. Dive into it when you find it and you’ll find more.
Interesting that he is NO longer on United's Org chart.
They either eliminated his position, and he may have known this was to happen or they know he will not be back for whatever reason.

The "tag" was from 3 yrs ago but still has a threatening tone to it, for sure.

I was thinking about a couple things.

1. I am wondering if his ex was owed child support and if the POA is able to pay it and is? Personally, I hope he/she isn’t. Then if I was the EX I would file charges for non payment. Why? Because of this law.

Illinois Child Support Enforcement - FindLaw

Enforcing Child Support Orders in Illinois

To enforce or collect a child support order, you’ll need to contact your local child support agency and bring a copy of your child support order. Those agencies will began an investigation and try to get the non-custodial parent to pay. Child support agencies have a number of different resources available to help collect the support including:

• Intercepting state and federal income tax refunds;
• Wage garnishment;
• Placing a lien against property;
• Garnishing a bank account;
• Suspending or revoking the parent’s Illinois driver’s license;
Requesting state or federal criminal prosecution for non-payment;
in certain circumstances;
Denial of a U.S. passport if over $2,500 in arrears; and
• List the name and photograph of the parent on the “Illinois Deadbeat Parent” website (usually reserved for parents who owe $5,000 or more in past-due child support).
.........
Now, I don’t know how the passport part applies if you already have one?
International Child Support Enforcement
International Child Support Enforcement

The issue of child support enforcement is a high priority to the United States. At the Department of State we:

  1. Provide information through the Consular Affairs Internet home page;
  2. Deny passport services, except for direct return to the United States, to persons the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families, Office of Child Support Enforcement (HHS/ACF/OCSE) certifies as $2500 or more in arrears;
(More at link)

I take this to mean his passport couldn’t be used except to return to the US.

2. I was thinking about exactly what a private detective can do. And, I was wondering what the hive mind here would want a PI to check out?

I don’t think a PI can access bank accounts, credit cards without permission. But, can a POA give permission?

I know we read that his Ex had someone check to see if he was on any flights. Does that mean *just* United’s system? Is that legal to do on other airlines or an invasion of privacy? Would LE have checked to see if his passport was used? Would they communicate that info to anyone?

How far can LE search without believing anything criminal happened? Can anyone legally search his computer and phone? Is the POA responsible for attempting to ensure privacy for Jake and his things?

A PI can conduct surveillance, and interviews and do all the things you and I can also do. What would you want a PI to do in this case?

I’ll start my list...

1. I would want a flight log of all private planes that flew out of LL22, near his missing timeframe. Brookeridge - Airport Information

2. I would interview anyone that owned a private plane in Jake’s “circle” or closely extended circle. Personally, I’ve found info here.

3. I would interview co-workers or his support staff if there is one. I want to know if anything seemed preparatory for a disappearance, or indicative of an alcohol problem.

4. I’d ask for camera footage from neighbors for as far back as possible.

5. I’d file FOIA’s on any info needed regarding the “investigation” of unknown detail.

6. I would interview family. Especially family and or close friends currently living outside of the USA.

7. I can’t find it but maybe public info on if he sold stock of United.

What else?

Not sure how many of these a PI could check out, but adding to your list, these are things I would like to know:
  • Confirm if there was a golf outing, and if so, where and what time.
  • Find out why he was selling his home, and where he was planning to live after the sale.
  • In the months leading up to his disappearance, did he express interest in any specific destinations?
  • Find out if he had any enemies; anyone who has made threats in the past.
  • From a United IT standpoint, when was the last time his username logged in to the system? What did his last activity consist of? Was his work email inbox/outbox reviewed for anything unusual?
  • Look at the note that was left on the door by his co-worker.
As for checking the United employee flights logs, I interpreted that to mean United employee flights only, but I wonder if that check also includes other airlines that they might have employee travel agreements with. To rule out whether or not he flew with another carrier via a discounted employee travel agreement.

The SEC requires disclosure of options grants, exercises, and sales by board directors and key executives, typically the C-level ones (CEO, CFO, etc.). Senior VPs like JC don't typically make the cut.

As far as your #4: Unless neighbors have already long ago saved camera footage, I'm not sure there would be anything left at this point, so long after the date Jake went missing. Hopefully officers did good checking in the first few days, to get that saved, if there's anything of relevance. I'm not sure how long "Ring" type systems save footage, though. Maybe quite long?

Camera footage was definitely something that I've wondered about. If it had happened by my home, I'd have been scouring my video very carefully for the days around the disappearance, and saving it whether any officers asked for it or not.

Ok, a little ot...... I am never again going to be able to listen to Ricky Nelson's Travelin' Man without thinking of Jake. He strikes me as the type of guy who wants companionship without commitment.

This is one strange case. In addition to the recently posted questions, I'd like to know if the bodies of water in and near Waterfall Glen have been searched with sonar.

I don't think his child support has any bearing on his missing persons case. Two separate and unrelated issues. He has assets, the courts would take any due support from his assets, and DuPage County is very pro dad when it comes to how it handles child support enforcement. CSE is based on wage garnishment through the state dispersment office and I'd bet money any child support paid by Jake does not go through the state dispersement office.

My Ring footage goes back to August 23rd as of today so looks like it’s 2 months...

@CuriousGirl2 to answer your question, we can't post any information here that's collected while sleuthing people still/currently unrelated to the case. No one has been indicated as a 'person of interest', so any info gathered about any possible connections is still off-limits.

Is it possible the Ring was installed by the new owner of the home (i think it sold?)?

EDIT - NEVERMIND! Sale hasn't closed yet.

No updates?

No updates?

It appears his house recently sold, per popular realtor sites when searching by property address.

Other than that, sadly, I'm not aware of any updates.

Again... reminds me of Robert Mayer in NY, missing since 2013 and Robert Hourihan in VA, missing since 2011. All are missing and their vehicles were found.

‘Something is absolutely not right’: Police release 911 call reporting United Airlines exec Jake Cefolia missing
“Nobody’s seen him since Thursday and he hasn’t reached out to any family members at all,” Kristine Cefolia reportedly said in the call. As CrimeOnline previously reported, Jake had dinner at home with his son that Thursday evening, and his son later said that his father appeared drunk.

Kristine Cefolia indicated in the 911 call that her ex-husband had been scheduled to see their children the night after he had dinner with his son.

“He missed his night with the kids. I have someone checking to see if he’s on a flight somewhere,” the woman said. “Something is absolutely not right.”

Would it be paid directly to the custodial parent and records submitted?

New article. No new info. Timeline in article. TOS limits to 10%.

United Airlines Executive Still Missing, 100 Days Later | One Mile at a Time

A United Airlines executive has now been missing for over three months, and there’s still no sign of him. A few weeks after he went missing quite a few details emerged, but they only raised more questions, rather than providing answers. Unfortunately there hasn’t been much more made public since then.

...
The updates that have been provided since his disappearance only make the situation even more confusing, given that they point to opposite conclusions. ....

Another new article with some additional information.

Search for Missing United Executive Shifts Deeper Into Suburban Chicago Woods

Note, the above article indicates Jake took the day off work Friday August 7. Intoxicated Thursday night. Doesn't go to work Friday. Coworker was at Jakes home Thursday evening and same coworker left a note on Jakes door Friday? Do I have that right?

I sure hope LE processed Jakes car. I'm not convinced it was Jake who drove it to get gas and to the Forest Preserve.
