  • Age 29 years old

[h=3]Details of Disappearance[/h] Jeri was last seen by her husband, Robert J. "Bob" Duvall, at their home in Shorewood, Illinois on the evening of June 8, 1990. The couple's two young daughters spent the weekend in Michigan with their grandparents.

Jeri was gone by the time her children returned. Robert reported her as a missing person four days after her disappearance, at the request of Jeri's mother. A photograph of Robert is posted with this case summary. He is the prime suspect in Jeri's disappearance.

Their children reported Jeri and Robert often had violent arguments and that Robert had choked Jeri and, on one occasion, threatened to burn their house down. The couple always made up afterwards and Robert usually bought Jeri expensive gifts to ease their reconciliation.

Robert had scratches on his face and arm when he went to pick up his children after Jeri disappeared. He refused to discuss Jeri with his daughters after she went missing.

It was Jeri's normal pattern to hide her purse whenever she argued with her husband. Months after her disappearance, Jeri's daughter found the purse hidden in the pocket of a snowsuit. She gave it to Robert and he promised to turn it over to the police, but he never did.

Jeri's family does not believe she left of her own accord. She had left her husband before, but had never been gone for very long and was never out of touch with her loved ones. She left behind all her belongings, including her car and money. In addition, she disappeared the day she and Robert were supposed to close on the sale of their house.

Robert has been arrested multiple times both before and after Jeri's disappearance on various charges, but he has never been charged in connection with Jeri's disappearance. He now lives in Florida.

Jeri's older daughter and her mother are still searching for her.

Thirty-one years ago this summer, Jeri Lynn Duvall, a 29-year-old mother of two girls, vanished from her Shorewood house at 205 Oakwood Drive. She was never seen alive again, and her body remains missing.

However, last November's out of state death of her husband, Bob Duvall, has Shorewood Deputy Police Chief Jason Barten optimistic someone may finally come forward with important information to help solve the mystery.

Bob Duvall was long regarded as the prime suspect in his wife's disappearance and presumed homicide, Barten told Patch during a recent interview.

In June 1990, the couple's young daughters went to Michigan to visit their grandparents for a few days. When the children returned, "Bob was scratched up, and he acknowledged there was a dispute between him and Jeri," Barten explained. "Bob's allegation was that Jeri left him."

But aspects of his story left Shorewood police investigators suspicious. Jeri Lynn's car was still in front of the house and the car was mechanically disabled, according to Barten.

"All her personal belongings were left behind," Barten said. "There was no communication (by her) with anybody. It would have been completely out of the ordinary for her to leave her two children behind."

Jeri Lynn Duvall disappeared on June 8, 1990. The couple lived at 205 Oakwood Drive, right off Route 59, near the DuPage River.
"There was a preliminary search in and around their house and known places that she and they frequented," Barten said. "We know there was some sort of domestic."

"Bob was involved in concrete work, and he would be working all over northern Illinois and northwest Indiana," Barten said. "There was property (searched) in Michigan. We've had federal agencies involved in this, the Army Corps of Engineers, state and local officials in other states, so the search has been well outside Shorewood and Will County."

Victor and Josefina Ochoa let Joliet Patch interview them Thursday afternoon in their backyard. They purchased the Duvall house in 1993 and have lived there the past 30 years.

The Ochoas recalled that Shorewood police did some excavation work many years ago inside their basement near their sump pump, but nothing was found.

According to Josefina Ochoa, there were reports that Bob Duvall painted his basement and dug a hole around his sump pump after his wife's disappearance. more:

Jeri is still listed as missing

<<Bob was scratched up, admitted there was an altercation with Jeri but he said she left him. His story, however, did not add up as her car was still at the house, mechanically disabled, her personal belongings were found at the home. Eventually, her children found her ID and other cards in the home.

Bob was the prime suspect and remains so even though he passed away in November 2022.

Bob was involved in concrete work and worked all over Illinois and in parts of Indiana and even Michigan. Police believe he buried her but it could be far away from Shorewood.

The new owners of the Shorewood home, who purchased the home in 1993, have allowed police to search, even letting them do excavation work.

Police did some excavation work many years ago inside their basement near their sump pump, but nothing was found. Another area where the police did a partial excavation, about 15 years ago, was near attached garage over near the backyard garden because at the time of Jeri’s disappearance, the garage did not exist.

Neighbors to the Duvalls reported to the new owners over the years that around the time Jeri disappeared, there was a huge bonfire near where the attached garaged and garden sit now.>>
