Family asks for help finding elderly Berwyn man with Alzheimer's who has been missing for days

Jose Guadalupe Arevalo was last seen around 3 p.m. Thursday walking out of his Berwyn home wearing a green flannel shirt, blue jeans and a hat.

"He needs his medication. He's been without it for 72 hours, he hasn't eaten. He didn't have a coat on," she said. "His cognition has declined so much in the past year, he wanted to go home. And he said I have to go home and you would ask him, where is home? And he couldn't tell you."

We don't live too far from Berwyn and I have a good friend that lives there. It's got a high Hispanic population which is good if he speaks only Spanish. It's also a fairly safe area. With it being warmer than normal temperatures today (40's, no precip and little wind) make me feel better that he will be found safely.

I wish a MP advocate would reach out to EV, Don Lupe's daughter, to provide her with information regarding statistics and behaviors of MPs who have dementia. It's possible Don Lupe is searching for a home (or other place, person, thing, etc) from his past. Does he have any connections to other places outside of Berwyn? Are there any homes in Berwyn that look similar to the one he lives in now (e.g, same color, build, landscaping, neighborhood)? It might be worth it to put feelers out in those areas as well. MOO

The family of Jose G. Arevalo had urged the public to help search for the missing 83-year-old found dead in North Riverside Tuesday.

A beloved 83-year-old Berwyn man who had been missing was found dead in North Riverside on Tuesday, Berwyn police said.
