Before I type my usual rigmarole, I'm not sure that I could paraphrase the article in the proper manner without basically copying everything that was written, so I suggest reading the article, but I'll give it a try...but first...

Joseph Ryan Wilson is a 26 year old black male that has been missing since April 22, 2012 in Royal Lakes, Illinois. He went missing shortly after the death of his adopted mother. Walker, 26, is said to be "a boy, in a man's body." He's in to playing video games and he generally walks on the tips of his toes. Law enforcement considers this disappearance as being 'missing under suspicious circumstances.'

Wilson is 5' 8" tall, weighs 169 lbs, has black hair, and brown eyes.

Oh my gosh. Someone cashing his SSI checks and his cousin fearing he died due to a criminal act. Terrible. :-(

Sounds like someone took advantage of his vulnerability. Possibly someone who realized he received a monthly check.

This was from Nov 12, 2013. They thought he was buried but LE only found dirt.

"Deputies received a report Monday of what neighbors and family members of the missing man believed might be a fairly fresh grave dug in the woods, not far from Royal Lakes. That’s where Joseph Ryan Wilson, 28, lived until he disappeared in April of 2012."

It's a shame. I thought I'd try to get some attention to this case. Very sad and just...sad.

Royal Lakes lies at the southwestern corner of two intersecting roads, Illinois Route 16 and Illinois Route 159. The nearest large cities are St. Louis, approximately 50 miles (80 km) to the southwest and Springfield, around 60 miles (97 km) northeast of the village.

Identity of dead body remains a mystery
Last updated: September 05. 2014 5:09PM

Snipped and BBM:

"It may take a couple months yet,” said Pfc. Emily Hejna, public information officer at the Alton Police Department. “We are waiting on the lab results.”

While police are not saying the body definitely is not that of either of three men missing from the region, Hejna said the investigation appears to be going away from those individuals.

“The leads we are investigating is leading us away from our local cases, but there is no positive identification and it probably will be months before do have an identification,” she said.

The missing men are Michael A. Womack of Alton, who was 25 when last seen in the city on March 31, 2008; Jared Hanna, who was 28 when last seen at his Jerseyville home on July 2, 2011; and Joseph Ryan Wilson of Royal Lakes, who was 24 when he disappeared April 22, 2012.

Major Case Squad Activated for Human Remains Found by Children
Remains Found in Macoupin County Likely an Adult Male, Official Says
Skeleton Found in Macoupin County May be Man Missing Since 2012

This UID was recently discovered in Illinois by some children (some reports say teenagers) playing near a creek near Prairie Dell Road in Macoupin County. Police say there is "substantial evidence" that he was murdered, and it is currently being handled by the St. Louis Major Case Squad. Macoupin County only recently joined the squad and there are now 14 detectives investigating the presumed murder.

Very little info is available about the UID himself. As I write this, all we know is that the remains belonged to an adult male and were completely skeletal (so they were there for some time). No details yet on what evidence the police found to make them so sure this was a homicide.

There's some speculation the bones belong to Joseph Wilson, a mentally disabled man who disappeared in 2012 from Royal Lakes. He had the mental capacity of a 7-year-old, and his last known residence was the home of a cousin who is a registered sex offender. Police believe somebody was cashing Wilson's disability checks for some time after his disappearance. Looking at Google Maps, Royal Lakes (which is a very small village with less than 200 residents) is approximately 10 miles from Prairie Dell Road.
Wilson is also the only person on NamUs who is missing from Macoupin County.

Here's roughly the location where the remains were found. The creek appears to be the treed area to the left of the pin.

As Migmuu said, it's very close to where Wilson went missing -- about three minutes by car and 20-25 minutes walking. https://goo.gl/maps/M2q4mEAtuaK2

Only thing I could think of that they are sure of murder is a bullet hole. Ugh I hope it's not that special needs man, that is horrifying.

He looks like such a cheerful friendly guy. But it doesn't sound like there's much hope that he didn't come to harm. I sure hope they can find the killer, whoever the victim is.

Unfortunately, they could have found a lot of things. Bullet hole, obvious knife wound (scrapes on ribs), smashed skull, wrists or ankles bound, ligature around the neck, blindfold or gag, body wrapped or bagged, or not intact...etc.

Human Remains Found Near Royal Lakes
This article provides a more exact address for the remains. The area is in the 7200 block of Illinois State Route 159, and it's actually in Royal Lakes. It's north of where Wilson disappeared.
Police are now comparing a sample of Wilson's mother's DNA to the UID's.
There's also an interesting note at the end of the article that says that, in 2013, police investigated a possible grave site in Royal Lakes. The earth was "disturbed", but when they dug it up, they found nothing.

Teens Find Skeletal Remains
This one says that the remains are probably several years old.

Does April 2012 to February 2016 constitute "several" years?

What an interesting case. It sounds like it could be the missing man, Joseph Wilson. DNA will be key, obviously.
