I wonder where and at what time she got into the car.

Hmmm. On the one hand, she has a certain right to leave.

On the other hand, she has children. I assume that a man wouldn’t have a right to walk away from his underage children and never look back, without consequences, right?

On the third hand, is LE acting entirely from seeing that video? Not from actually talking to her? I’d assume that many people have gotten voluntarily into a car, and had things go very badly for them, after that.

Something strikes me as a little odd about the 9.14 phone call.

I’m thinking husband must have called JA’s cell phone, as opposed to a landline in the home - otherwise the daughter would have picked it up.

He then almost straight away phones the daughter. Was something so urgent? Or is it a persistence type of thing on his part? Or was he worried about her due to an existing situation?

In my house, if my husband didn’t reach me he wouldn’t start calling other people to see where I am. He’d probably assume I was away from my phone and follow up with a text, unless he really needed to reach me in which case he would phone me again a few mins later.

JMO
It didn't seem that odd to me because he had called her cell and she didn't answer. He probably assumed she was home with the kids so he tried his daughter, to see what was up at home. It seems kind of normal for a Dad to do that, as he is getting off work for the night.

During the call he is told that his wife walked to the restaurant----that would be a red flag because she had not arrived.

Anyway, it isn't here nor there now because she has apparently left on her own accord?

It says case is closed, but I sure hope they checked it further than her just getting into a car.

My guess is the hotel area off highway 51. Seems like it’s the only thing in the area that she was running towards that would have cameras.

I wonder if she had pre packed the bag she was carrying and was hiding while waiting for a planned pickup. When we saw her on the video running with the bag, it could have been her running with her belongings she had packed. Seeing the car and getting spooked makes sense if she was trying to leave town undetected.

CLINTON, Ill. (WCIA) – Police have ended their search for a missing Clinton woman. They said she left on her own, but her family thinks police are wrong – and they want answers.

Arellano’s sister said her family was called down to the police department the same afternoon the investigation was closed – four days after Arellano left home. She said police told them they had “good news.”

“That they found her alive… that they found a video that was her,” she said.

She said police showed them a video of Arellano getting into a small, grey car the night she disappeared. There was a man behind the wheel and a woman in the passenger seat, but she said they didn’t recognize them. Even though Arellano’s family still hasn’t heard from her, police ended their investigation. They said in a news release that Arellano left voluntarily and they had no evidence of criminal wrongdoing.

She wants people to understand they still don’t know where their loved one is.

“Everybody assumed that – okay, she’s back home even though we have people calling, ‘oh she’s back already?’ No, she’s not back already,” she said.

Arellano has three daughters, all under the age of 14. Her family said they haven’t told the girls much because they don’t want to worry them, but at some point, they know they’ll have to.

“They need their mom. I mean, they need their mom,” she said.

More at link.

Three daughters, all under the age of 14.
How do you explain this to them?
They just started school last week, it has to be difficult for them, I hope the family has help dealing with the situation.

Interesting article regarding Juana getting into a vehicle with two other people, captured on video. The family apparently has still not heard from her. I assume the CPD and the State Police made contact with her?

I understand adults have a right to leave voluntarily and LE won’t disclose their location if they don’t want to be found. However, if LE had actually talked to her, couldn’t they at least tell the family, “We spoke with her to verify she is alive and well but can’t release anymore info”? Or can they not say even that? If I was her family, I would not feel better about this until knowing someone actually made contact with her after that video.

on news that Juana left voluntarily I was left wondering if she was picked up by DV advocates. It is entirely possible that she is being sheltered in a DV safe house. We simply don't have enough information to determine that she has "abandoned" her children. Marking this one off my watched list. Whatever caused her to leave as she did is no business of mine. I will keep her children in my thoughts and hope that she reaches out to them.

I'm not sure what's up here, but I can certainly understand the family's concern if Juana has not reached out to a single family member or friend. I definitely would not be satisfied if my daughter went missing and all LE had to say was she was on video getting into a car. Case closed. I'd be losing my mind because that seems more like a clue rather than a resolution. To me, anyway. IMO

This was also a question of mine, or perhaps an attorney. Perhaps she is seeking a divorce. Her TikTok appears to me that she isn't against the attention of other men. Maybe she is just unhappy in her marriage, is seeking a new start. I would never leave my children behind, and we don't know why, but perhaps she is getting settled and then will reach out. Still, not my style, but...

I think you might be right. Her poor kids though, I can't imagine.

UPDATE:

Clinton Police Chief Ben Lowers told WAND News the missing persons case of Juana Arellano is still open. However the department has closed its criminal investigation into her disappearance.

Police are asking Arellano to reach out to any police department or her family. The missing persons case will remain open until Arellano makes contact.

Missing woman’s family still searching after investigation closes

  • #116
I don't understand this. It seems LE has never been in contact with Juana since she disappeared and closed the case based on a video of her entering a car? Are they still investigating that car and who those people are? There was a huge community search scheduled for this morning, but it was canceled when LE "closed" the case. Now, no one is looking it seems. Her poor family. jmo

Yea this seems like LE is backtracking a bit. I went back and read the original announcement and it definitely said “the missing persons investigation is considered closed.” Which, if they meant the criminal wrongdoing investigation, fine… but that’s not what it said.
I can’t imagine how incredibly frustrating this must be for her family and friends.

  • #118
Well, this is very unfortunate. How could they not confirm she's okay and go ahead and close the case?

  • #119
LE didn't close the missing persons case. They closed the criminal investigation. It appears JA left voluntarily. At least at the time she got into the car, no criminal activity occurred. What happened after that is up in the air, hence there's still an open investigation into a missing person.

If they don't know who she left with in the car or what that situation was, how do they know the criminal investigation can be closed? I mean, perhaps they got the license plate off the video and talked to those people who assured them all was good, but do we know they were being truthful? Even if it appears she willingly went into the car, it doesn't mean something criminal didn't happen later, right? I'm so confused by this.
