Maybe I am just hoping. Either way, it is someone who should not be found in a river.

What has the temp been up there ... Is less than three weeks enough time for a body in water to deteriorate like that? Maybe the decomp accelerated the fading of the clothing ... surely they could tell if it is red ...

In the first article that came out it said the body was covered with algae. Maybe that's why colors and clothes could not be easily identified?

I hate to even type this, but she wouldn't necessarily be wearing what she was reported to be wearing when she went missing. #1 consider the source, and #2 anything could have happened to her in the interim.

I pray this isn't Katrina, but if it is, her family will have some closure and perhaps someone will be brought to justice for this heinous crime.

Does anyone know if there are other women missing in the area?

I wouldn't surprised if Katrina's body was found with no pants. Everything else in her case seems a bit staged to me...the car being left, the purse, the phone...the wallet left somewhere else.
In an effort to make a particular case look like theft, car-jacking, or rape, perps can do all sorts of things to lead or mislead LE.

I would think they have her dental records already, since she has been missing for several weeks.

I do not think there is any chance Katrina took off and is alive someplace. If this is her, some answers are more likely to be forthcoming, as well as an arrest, hopefully, than if she is not found. The sooner she is found the better. As horrible as it is, I hope she has been found.

Need to keep an eye on possible informal POI's at a time like this.

While LE hasn't made public that they are even looking at someone as a suspect they have to be and they have to watch them now as it may be a flight risk situation.

ITA with the above regarding at this time is a prime time for flight risk of any involved..no, LE has not identified the body yet but you better believe whoever is responsible for the murdering/disposing of this victim(whether Katrina or another white female)..whoever is responsible damn well knows ALREADY exactly whose body it is and now knows the body's been located and only a matter of a short time before its officially identified...yep..IMO prime time for possible flight risk...jmo.

It's river water, not salt water. I find that detail strange too. But I guess if the fabric was all cotton and not synthetic? Or also if the body had been tangled in that log and exposed to sunlight.

Or clothes had been changed?

In the very first one or two articles it said no pants, but when you click on those links now the articles have been changed. Maybe it was a misinformation.

In the video on this page they say at the end that (paraphrasing now) there are other missing women in the area, and that the pd in Joliet also called.

i know that some algae is now considered bacteria and either way it takes a certain time to grow...so if its growing on the clothing etc. i would think that could give some time frame of how long in the water the body was... i dont believe that she is alive, so i hope that this is her and the family can put her to rest. then, get on to proving who the slime is that did this to her.

This was the original release which has now been updated and doesn't make any mention of "pants"

The Byron Fire Department and Police Department responded RT 2 and Town Line Rd. in Byron after a dead body was discovered in the Rock River.

Ogle County Deputy Michael Harn has confirmed that the body is female.

At 12:30, an off duty Byron firefighter was fishing in the river. He spotted a dead body caught on a log and called the Byron Sheriff's Department and Fire Department.

The body was severely decomposed and covered with algae. There were no pants on the body.

Three Winnebago County detectives were on scene but would not comment on why they were there.

An autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow at 9:00 A.M. in the Ogle County Morgue.
