Lets wait a bit and see how things are going to play out. News may all but stop after todays news. We see this in the Fox case now.
I have a feeling because there were two girls killed and by one of the girls father this one will play out with lots of news coverage. It has been on every news channel it has been all over the media every where you turn you see or read about it.

Sadly poor Riley didn't attract enough national news attention as this case an many others. I had not heard a word about Riley's case until I fond it here.

I respect your decsion Timex I was just making an oberservation.

If the case continues to be spotlighted, by all means we would consider a forum. Its just a bit early yet to know what is going to happen.

It may be being covered in some places...but I've not seen a thing about it where I'm at. There was a brief story in the middle of the newspaper...but nothing on my local TV news at all. I've gotten all my news on it from here or from the Fox website.

Also, do you think that if she had a knife, that the little girls were fearful before this happened and planned to take care of themselves if they had too? Maybe they just underestimated the person they were afraid of. You know, maybe the older one thought she could protect the younger one.

IMO, and I may be wrong, but I doubt the girls had the knife to defend themselves. We all know this, as kids, there was always the curiosity that would come into play with things our parents told us not to play with, like knives and matches. They were probably out cutting branches or something because they were playing. Just like when kids go out and play with matches in the woods. Or in my husband's case, trying to burn the blocky apartment down in E. Germany with his friends.

Why do women think they are the only ones who get hurt in abusive relationships? It sickens me everytime I hear about somebody's boyfriend or husband hurting children. If every mother always put their children's well being first, their would be no paternal child abuse and also no spousal abuse. And to those that say it isn't that easy to leave, it would be if you were putting your childern first. I JUST HOPE SOME LADY OUT THERE HEARS THIS STORY AND REALIZES WHEN YOU KEEP ABUSERS AROUND IT WILL HURT AND CAN KILL YOUR KIDS. I JUST HOPE THAT THE HOBS SIBLINGS CAN GET TROUGH ALL THE TRAUMA THEY'VE HAD TO ENDURE AND THAT THEY BE BLESSED WITH A FEW GOOD MOMENTS IN THEIR LIVES. GOD GRANT THE TOBIAS FAMILY THE STRENGTH TO CONTINUE ON AND SOMEDAY SMILE AGAIN.

My thoughts: She took this guy back after he tried to kill her with a chain saw...and when two men tried to stop him from killing her, he tried to kill them! He was given probation and screwed that up also by not wanting to get anger management. He was put in prison to serve his sentence. So, while in prison he found Jesus (don't they all) and promised to be good. She took him back in and put a known violent criminal in her childrens lives! I'll be she is crying right now..."But I love him!" crap...and double crap...I have no sympathy for her.
She has other children...now they are subject to her whims. Wonder what she will do??? I know, she will be the victim here and get lots of sympathy while her remaining children learn how to avoid responsibility.

I think it's been posted that the story about the girls having a knife came from Hobbs...which IMO gives it little credibility. I don't think the girls had a knife, at least I gather that from what golfmom posted regarding the press conference and local news she was relaying to us.

We only have the word of the man who killed the girls that one had a knife. I'm not giving any credit to what he has to say.

He'll plead insanity. The knife wounds in the eyes will be used to show how he snapped. SICKO

I can see your reasoning about having the knife for entertainment, my 10 yr. old son likes magnifying glasses. But I am considering that a 9 year old might be in a sort of state of shock at seeing her friend being hurt so badly (didn't they say punched) that if she hadn't considered using the knife as defense before, would she automatically think of it as a weapon or would she jump on him, hit him etc. or even run get help. I just think they were in a defense sort of mindset already.

I guess I didn't realize we only had his word about where the knife came from so it may be a moot point. Do you think he started with that to go along a "self defense" way but realized how incredible that sounded?

  • #609
IMO even if it was her knife he kind of over-reacted.

There's only two ways for him to go here if he wants to plead not-guilty.

1. self-defense
2. crazy

IMO self defense isnt gonna wash. To brutally beat and stab an 8 and 9 year old child in self defense? Would any jury actually believe he could have felt his life was in danger from these 2 girls?

Local newspaper cover with the most comprehensive details I've found.

http://www.suburbanchicagonews.com/newssun/top/c11zion.htm

......
He dragged them into the woods and left them face-up, side-by-side, Pavletic said. The girls had apparently taken their shoes off, and Hobbs had paired them next to the bodies, he said.
........

This is going to be one of the little details that'll hang him.

Who knows what he's thinking in his warped mind, but he was the adult and even if (which I don't believe) a 9 year old pulled a knife on him, there are better ways to deal with it than brutally killing these girls.

The knife hasn't been found yet, but I'd bet that the tiny pretty little girl wasn't packing no potato knife ...

I am going to play devil's advocate for a minute.....

This is a town where no major crimes has taken place in a while. Two children were brutally murdered. Of course the town is in fear, and outraged. Normal police investigating leads them to look at the parents, one whom has been in prison. Is it really far fetched that the police would want to wrap this up, by bringing in the dad, holding him there for a long time questioning him over and over and over (he was there for a long time). Stringing him a long with details so in the end they have a scenario of what could have happened...tells him he won't have it so bad when he goes back to prison if he just confesses. Then the police turn on the videotape and get their confession? Order is restored, chalk on up for the police.

What would be the point of that? So, they put an "innocent" man in jail and the real killer is running around free while the people of the town believe they are safe. While I realize that false charges and coerced confessions are a reality, I believe they are rare and just do not see how it is beneficial to the police or the community.

I am sorry but if I see this "Mother" on TV defending this piece of S#$% I am going to just go CRAZY. Does she not have any compasion for her daughter who was brutaly murdered, repeatedly stabbed aloing with her best friend byt the hand of her "Father" and I use that term loosely he is more of sperm donor if you ask me. I get so angry that our children are being hurt and victimized every day by people they think will love and protect them and then in their deaths these people stand up for the person who are charged with murdering their children.
\

Have we ever heard from her?? I can't recall her speaking publicly at all. If the family is standing by this piece of crap I would PRAY the entire city of Zion turns on them. No, make that the whole county! How could you defend such a person?

I guess that's why they brought up the issue of rubbing alcohol huh?
I wasn't sure where they were going with that, but now it makes more sense. He was cleaning up / covering up.

Look, I'm the first one who will throw this mother (and any other mother) under the bus when subjecting their kids to ANY violent people, fathers, uncles, what have you. However, if anyone is going to play "devil's advocate" here, I will in this case. While this mother may have done NOTHING right in her relationship with this murderer, I seriously doubt that she thought he would murder her daughter. I personally will give her until after the funeral for the shock to wear off and the anger to set in. If it doesn't, she's fair game as far as I'm concerned.

I'm going to stand in line behind Jeana.

Ok, can't help myself here ... she has "THE" letter to prove how close they were. One freakin' letter? Who wrote it?

Ok, that felt better, now ...

Maybe there were more but she doesn't make it sound that way.

I stand by my earlier post, she's defending herself and her decision to bring him back around.
