IL IL - Lane Bryant Murders, Tinley Park, 2 Feb 2008

I once had hopes of seeing this case be solved but those have waned over the past few years. The silence from LE has been deafening. I could be wrong and I hope I am. I have been following this case for over a decade and compared to other cold cases, this one just does not seem to get the attention that many others receive.
I agree. I was wondering how long it took to solve the Brown's Chicken Murders (also a Chicago suburban multiple victims murder) and remember thinking that was a long time...but it was only 9 years compared to the now 16+ of the Lane Bryant Murders.

''In addition to being deceased, Buslik says the suspect may have left the Chicago area immediately following the crime.
"I think that’s a distinct possibility. It’s very close to the highway. It would be very easy to leave. We have seen other kinds of crimes that were facilitated by transportation infrastructure," he said.
"Because it was such an odd target for a robbery, I think that’s a possibility that it was very much a random target and the offender may have been passing through and then continued on his way," Buslik said.''

''They said they were pressing their search for a black man about 5 feet 9 inches tall and 260 pounds, dressed in black clothing.
Eric Woolfolk, who identified the body of his sister, Connie R. Woolfolk, said she was shot in the head. She had bruises, and her hands had been tied behind her back.
“He might have tortured her,” he said. “He couldn’t possibly have thought that (store) would be a good place to rob. This person is obviously a sick person.

As for TP police, 2 possibilities come to mind. 1, this case is not a high priority anymore after 17 years or 2, they have a suspect and have not made the arrest yet. I am hoping for option 2 and someday soon we will get the news that there is an arrest. I am hoping the 17 year anniversary coming in a month will bring some new information although I am not going to hold my breath. No new information has come in this case for many years now.

I’ve lived in the area for years. I’ve only heard this case mentioned 1 time and that was by an old lady that has lived in the area for years when I was looking at the surveillance videos in my husbands office. She told me they put up the cameras because of this crime. That’s how I found out about this case and decided to research it.

I think the Tinley Park police dept didn’t tell us multiple people were involved because they didn’t want to scare the public more than they already were. This was a relatively new shopping center when this crime occurred. It’s one of the nicest place to shop in Tinley Park if not he nicest and generates a lot of tax revenue for them. I think that since there isn’t much pressure from the public they don’t want to remind people this happened here.

At 10:44am, presumably the only camera capturing the parking area shows a certain car and SUV in front of the Lane Bryant store. Investigators brought the video to NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama. Using the same technology used to get clearer images from space, astrophysicist, Dr. David Hathaway, got rid of some of the graininess to the video and came up with these images of the two vehicles in question. Investigators seem to believe that, more than likely, the SUV pictured belongs to the killer as it was parked facing the direction of the store. Here's the stills from the America's Most Wanted segment.

Friday marked 16 years since five women were murdered in a Tinley Park Lane Bryant store, a case that remains unsolved. First responders who were on the scene that day have continued the quest for justice in the case in which the gunman has never been caught.

If the police department isn’t responding to tips, maybe submit tips to America’s Most Wanted.

Their tip hotline is 1-866-AMW-TIPS or you can submit through their website.

MOD NOTE:

Please don't post pictures of random people on Websleuths, even if you suspect them of something. I'd sure hate to have my photo pasted here.

Etiquette & Information rules state "If you submit a tip to law enforcement, do NOT announce it or discuss it in any way on the threads. Doing so has the potential to undermine an investigation."

As @IceIce9 says above, if local LE doesn't respond to a tip, call America's Most Wanted. Or contact the FBI at
(312)421-6700 or tips.fbi.gov.

I will say that most of the robberies that occur in the area are done by people using stolen vehicles. That’s why they’re so brazen and don’t care about the cameras.

Well 17 years now and still no closer to a resolution. As of right now no news articles about the anniversary. I have seen many more cold cases receive far more attention that this one and this incident resulted in 5 deaths.

5 dead and such a brazen crime.

It seems like this crime would have received so much more attention. Most people can relate to working retail, or having family members who have worked retail. And everyone shops.

Usually highly relatable crimes receive much attention.

In addition to a sketch of the murder suspect, an audio recording of his voice from the 911 call and a wanted poster and reward information continues to be available on Tinley Park’s government website.

If I’m not mistaken, I believe I read somewhere thst one of the victims fought back. If so, can’t LE get DNA from her fingernails?

Sunday marked 17 years since the Lane Bryant murders rocked south suburban Tinley Park. As time has gone on, the storefront has changed and the reward for info leading to an arrest has increased over $100,000, but the murders still remain unsolved.
Feb 2 2023 rbbm
"We were tangentially involved through what I would call identifying the electronic footprint of those involved in the crime. We were contacted by the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force, requesting assistance and just trying to identify people that might have been in the area who could have perpetrated this crime," said Farrell, who is the current owner of Silver Star Protection Group.
That high tech evidence could eventually help solve the case.''
"The information is there. Now we're just trying to reverse engineer with information who that person was,
" Farrell said.''

"There are auditory ways to try to match people and we don't know what the future brings in that technology. So, it's a great piece of evidence as technology advances. We have his voice; the whole tape hasn't been disclosed. There's more than that just one small segment," Farrell told the I-Team.''
