IL IL - Lane Bryant Murders, Tinley Park, 2 Feb 2008

STL, I think you got it about right. A “business takeover” may have been the plan all along. My initial thinking was that the plan was to get the cash from the safe before it was taken to the bank. They may have gotten opening time wrong. What never made sense was the “get away” vehicle taking so long to show up.

If this was just a “takeover robbery” a shop with only women customers makes sense. You wouldn’t expect to net that much but armed robberies often don’t. They are fairly easy to get away with so long as no one is recognized, no license written down and no fingerprints are left. A suburban PD isn’t likely to be able to invest a lot of resources in an investigation. Killing 4 people was almost certainly a “screw up”, the guy may have panicked and blew it.

I think the lesson here is that when confronted fly an armed robber, do what they say and don’t try to be a hero.

That all makes sense. I agree that the plan was probably to get case from the safe before it was deposited. That's why I think if he had inside knowledge or an insider helping, then he would have known to come earlier to catch the person making the deposit.

Yeah. I'm not sure about why the getaway vehicle came so late. That's a good point. Maybe it was camped out around the corner out of view of the camera and pulled around when the police were getting close?

I think the accomplice/getaway driver was there all along but was staging away from the store at first. Maybe they thought it would look suspicious to have a vehicle sitting in front of the store for an extended period of time. And maybe by staying farther back he could see the parking lot better. IMO, the cop showing up in the parking lot altered the plan slightly, perhaps making the accomplice pull up to the store and went in to tell the shooter that they needed to go quick because there was a cop a few hundred feet away. During this time is when Rhoda breaks free, calls 911 and we know what happened from there.
