I don't either but I don't understand why the family would be releasing information that is false. Even the husband if he were guilty. I know criminals are/can be dumb but that would be really stupid.

I also don't quite understand police keeping this so close to the vest and not releasing any updates whatsoever but then again, I've never been impressed by Chicago Police when it comes to missing people.
I don't have much experience in these matters so those of you that do please feel free to correct me, but by the police keeping things so close to the vest I'm led to believe that they view this as a likely homicide, no?

I agree- there is no way the family would be putting out false information, LE may be protecting her privacy.

No, I don't think we can make that assumption at this point, tbh.

From the ^^link:

Family of a missing Chicago Public Schools teacher said Thursday there is new video showing her getting out of her car and not returning.
All I can think about is that she is presumably wearing her shiny boots. I picture knee-high boots, and just wonder how comfortable they would be to walk in for any distance. Do they have raised heels? I hope she didn't go into the water.

It would be interesting to know where the car was found. Them not releasing that concerns me but also gives me a little hope that maybe she checked herself into a mental health facility or something like that and it really is just about protecting her privacy. I would think, though, that police would alert that she has been found and provide no details if that were the case.

Or she's been missing longer than we know about.

I am still holding on to hope.

I am sorry if I missed this upthread, but do we know for sure when she was last seen- by someone other than her husband?

Nope.

Initially police might not offer a location of the vehicle in order to do K9 searches. Extra people (smells) make the dogs' jobs harder. But I would think after 24 hours that would no longer be an issue.

I remember reading they were UGG-type boots, which would be flat-soled. I live in the Chicagoland area, and a long, black puffy coat and ankle-height UGG-type boots are comically considered by many to be the Chicago winter uniform. Also, nothing about that outfit would draw any attention here in the winter.

I wonder if police have more solid info that points to self harm, that's why they are searching in specific areas and not seeking too much help from the public.

The Brief

  • Linda Brown’s family says surveillance video shows her parking, getting out and walking away from her car.
  • The video does not show her returning to the vehicle.
  • The search continues as relatives say she may still be on foot.

The 24 hour rule is somewhat of a generalization (bear in mine I have no handler experience but have worked alongside of dogs searching for victims of plane crashes that were either thrown from or walked away from the crash scene). The best scent trail, obviously is in that 24 hour window but some dogs can search beyond that by several days, depending on ambient conditions. Cool, moist days with no wind are the best. Scent may pool, cling, and survive in shady areas and in such conditions past 24 hours.

My wife gets up earlier than I do like 4:30. I know she's up but barely. Antwon stated they watched a movie went to bed and when he awoke 8:35 she was gone!
Forgive me, is that location consistent with her home address?

So she could have returned home? And give missing, subsequently, later?

Maybe missing her acupuncture appointment wasn't her choice?

I have questions.

She lives at 4553 S king drive.... 4550 is across the street. There are several acupuncture clinics within 5 miles of her. But I seen something states she was going to acupuncture in wicker park.

Do we know what time/day that was? I'm glad family gave this info even though I would have preferred it came from the police. IMO

Seems LE must be protecting her privacy by not releasing more information. That's all I can figure. Now that there's video, according to her family, of here leaving her car that could explain their silence, imo. She's mia by choice and there's nothing wrong or illegal about that. Really hopeful that Linda will reach out to her family and let them know where she is so she can get help.

I live in the Wicker Park neighborhood where she was allegedly headed, and I've heard not a thing about this case other than here on Websleuths. That might just be a "me" issue, but I find it odd.

Not good news. It appears the info from abc7 news was just updated, this is what I feared for Ms. Brown:

"They said Wednesday that her car had been found, but she remains missing.

Family said the car was found near South Lake Park Avenue and East 35th Street.

There is video footage of her walking over a pedestrian bridge that leads to the lakefront, her family said.

She is alone in the footage, which is from 3 a.m. Saturday.

Family said they will be starting their own search party in the area Friday morning."
