A possible new lead on Linda's case...

Missing Person: Possible Break In 1982 Northbrook Cold Case

NORTHBROOK, IL — Police are investigating a lead relating to a missing person cold case from the winter of 1982 in Northbrook. Though police have not confirmed, it may be related to the case of Linda H. Seymour, who disappeared without a trace 39 years ago.

Seymour, who was 35 at the time she went missing, was last seen at around 2 p.m. Dec. 21, 1982 in Northbrook, according to The Charley Project. She has never been seen or heard from again. Few details have ever been available in her case.

The Northbrook Police Department and North Regional Major Crimes Task Force conducted a dig Tuesday morning for the possibility of human remains in the 1400 block of Orchard Lane, as reported by NorthShore Updates. Seymour was a resident of a home in this area at the time of her disappearance.

Police digging in yard of Northbrook home for body of woman missing for 38 years

As investigators dug deeper into the backyard of a Northbrook home Wednesday in search of the remains of a woman who went missing nearly four decades ago, the police chief made it clear that the excavation could take several days.

“We began digging Tuesday, and it’s a slow and methodical process,” Northbrook Police Chief Christopher Kennedy said Wednesday, noting less than a foot of earth had been removed so far.

“We’ll go down as deep as we need, maybe as many as 5 to 7 feet,” he told the Chicago Sun-Times Wednesday morning.

About ten years ago, when I was working on my first true crime book (which is about a cold case just a few miles from Northbrook) I did some of the work at my parent's house. This included conducting interviews with sources.

I was in a little office off of the back of the house. If I looked across the yard, and through a neighboring yard on the other side of the block, I could see the Seymour's house. In other words, when investigating an area cold case I had no idea I was perhaps some 40 yards from the scene of another cold case.

The truth is stranger than fiction.
