Marvin's two FB accounts show that although he lives in St. Louis, MO he is from Los Angles/Sun Valley, CA. It appears he started a job with Hinkfoot Studios, a German gaming developer) on 27 Jun. He's got a couple hundred friends between the two accounts, none of whom have posted any kind of publicly viewable "where are you?" messages as of yet. I wonder what was the purpose of his trip to Carbondale which is about 2 hours SE of St. Louis? Carbondale is home to Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC), which tends to drive its economy and diversity and gives Carbondale its reputation as a college town with lots of partying. I'm not sure what's been happening given the COVID situation but I do wonder whether he may have been intending to meet with gamers/geeks concerning his new job. I hope LE finds him quickly and that he's safe and happy.

I wonder what the deal is with the person who "dropped him off"--did they bring him from STL and drop him off, or was he already there and dropped off at that location from elsewhere in town? (I assume the former because there's no info about him having a vehicle there, but can't be sure).

If they know when and where he was dropped off, presumably they know who it was that dropped him off too, right?

I also wonder whether the "shots fired" and "suspicious activity" reports are referring to the same thing or two separate ones.

I lived in Carbondale for a few years and if this is a foul play situation it's kind of a weird one. I can't remember hearing about more than maybe one murder there in which the body was hidden afterward, and I also can't recall murders of anyone who wasn't either a local or a student. It's a pretty small sample size because Carbondale only has like 2-3 murders a year, but still maybe worth noting.

I hope Marvin is found safe soon.

IMO it sounds like "suspicious activity" was more than just the sound of gun shots. I hope LE has a good idea of what actually happened and are quietly very busy with this case.

I feel for his family. And if they don't have additional information than what's been reported, it would be extremely difficult to cope with what has been reported.

Missing St. Louis man last seen in Carbondale, Ill.

According to Carbondale police, they were notified that Marvin Simpson, 42, of St. Louis, was last seen in the Taytum Heights area around 11 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 26.

Police say on Wednesday, between 11 p.m. and 11:30 p.m., an anonymous caller called them and reported suspicious activity in the Taytum Heights neighborhood.

They said they would like to talk to the person who reported the suspicious activity and anyone else who may have information about Simpson’s whereabouts.

Questions:
When (date) was Marvin reported missing?
Did LE just notice the possible connection of when & where he was last seen with the suspicious activity place & time?
Can LE not track the phone call?

Hey all I appreciate the fact that total strangers are so interested in what happened to my dad. I am his only child. He has family. He just really wasn’t as active on Facebook. We miss him dearly. Especially me. Sadly there are still no updates about his whereabouts. All we can do is keep faith.

Posting due to location. Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge (CONWR) is approximately 13 miles (21 minutes) from Tatum Heights neighborhood where Marvin was dropped off before he disappeared. I'm including a link to a Google Maps view of the driving directions from Tatum Heights Park to the Visitors Center of CONWR. This is an approximation given it's not been reported exactly where in the Tatum Heights neighborhood Marvin was last seen or where in CONWR the deceased's remains were located.

Noting also the high possibility these remains could belong to Wesley James Gentry. He went missing in rural Williamson County near Crab Orchard Lake on 8 Mar 2021. I've not found much information on him yet as I've just stumbled across his case a few minutes ago. I'll get a thread started for him then edit this post with a link.

Hopefully an identification will be made and released soon. My prayers go out to the victim's loved ones.

I think it's pretty likely that the remains are one of the two, and it's almost a coin flip as to which. Based on the general location of the remains, and the circumstances of Marvin's disappearance, I would think it much more likely to be Wesley, but the time frame on his disappearance kind of gives me pause.

(Of course as noted above, the exact location of the remains is not known, and if it was, it could swing the needle a lot).

Could decomposition to skeletal occur in that climate in four months? (if in fact Wesley went missing that long ago--which it's possible he didn't)... My inclination is "unlikely but maybe", but it depends a lot on what the weather was like in the spring, which down there can be extremely variable year to year.

Any confirmation on remains found?
I've not been able to find any updates on the remains found in COL or Marvin's disappearance. His NamUs profile is still active. I can't understand why there hasn't been any new appeals for information. In a case where suspicious activity has been reported, it seems LE would be pushing hard to get more information. I wish his family would get answers soon.

My heart is so heavy reading all this. I can not believe he is MISSING! Like, I’m trying to process it foreal. My daughter called me a couple hours ago, saying she thought she seen him at the store. I’m like really how he doin? She says, Momma I don’t think it was him, because the nose. I’m like oh ok. I was like I’m glad he resurfaced. So I ask her to reach out to his daughter on FB to get in contact with him, because I know he doesn’t do FB, like me. Just to say Hi. Come to find out her mother just passed on 02/14, Marvin’s still missing, like wtf! That child is going through it. And she needs him more than ever.I can’t believe this. Where is Marvin? He can put distance between folks when he in his feelings, but nothing to this magnitude!!! I know Marvin, and for it to be 4 YEARS and nobody seen or heard from him is crazy!!!! Where is the OUTRAGE!!!

I have called the Carbondale police department. They confirmed the case is still under investigation, but going cold because lack of leads. The investigator told me he got ‘dropped off’ and when whomever dropped him off called or texted him he didn’t respond. Carbondale is 2 hrs from the Southside of St. Louis, so to drop Marvin off, like it’s around the corner and not see him go into a home, watch him go in, make sure he ‘good’ ain’t making no sense. They need to knock on some doors, beat the block. Because the way I’m feeling right now I want too RIGHT NOW! Marvin deserve to be just forgotten!!!! Nooooo, not like this.
