IL IL - Molly Young, 21, Carbondale, 24 March 2012

Thank you, Mrsk--I am beginning to think one cannot go anywhere in southern Illinois without seeing green-Justice for Molly! The family's efforts to get a fair investigation are paying off!

Yep. I knew it sounded familiar but couldn't place it until you said that.

There is an interesting YouTube video that summarizes the case nicely, also talks about some back and forth Facebook chats that this non-msm talk show/journalist (?) had with the roomate. Is there any way to direct people to this and still remain within TOS?

I did a search on youtube. I searched Molly young case, and the first one came up by a journalist/talk with initials MZ. Very interesting. So much more to the case then I was thinking.

This is awful. This is the first time I've heard this very sad story.

Hinky meter is off the charts and with just a very simple search and reading some posts online it becomes even more so.

Something stinks to high heaven in Central Illinois.

I'm off to read more, but there is something very wrong here, something I think we've seen before. :(

Same here, inthedark -- I'm not local there, or otherwise I would have prolly already been involved with it. There's got to be a little or a lot we don't know yet, but you used the word "stink" before I was able to do it. Fishy, fishy, fishy. And so dayam sad, as always.

Hinky-stinky.

This guy could be completely innocent, etc., etc., but right now I would think other LE, especially not in the area -- the honest, hard-working ones -- are again rolling their eyes and shaking their heads, thinking "here we go again, making good LE look like they think they are above the law." DP et al. I hope the right stuff is found & reported, no matter how it goes.

Nothing -- nothing -- sounds right about this case, based on what I've seen. Loyalty is one thing, but....

Bothersome and very upsetting. Let me stop ranting... <smh>

This entire case stinks of shades of Tera Chavez and Vashti Seacatt, both murdered by LE partners and made look like suicide. Seacatt was sentenced to forever, and Chavez walked. I join you all and pray for justice.

Glad to see more folks talking about this! The more you read and listen about this case, the more none of it makes a bit of logical sense. It truly is amazing though how a grassroot effort has taken off. Molly's family aren't going to let this just be swept under the rug from what I'm seeing. I agree that I think she had some serious depression and other issues going on but I'm just not seeing the physical evidence that SHE did this to herself. I also don't understand WHY the ex-bf has been so uncooperative if indeed it was a suicide. Hopeful this special prosecutor will now step in and order a true investigation and whatever the outcome, her family will be able to find some sort of closure.

Hi !
This whole case Stinks !

I've only just discovered this by reading about it on MDS so came straight here to look for Molly & really had to search. I only got here already knowing Molly's father was pushing for further investigation.
I'd noticed this thread but just assumed it was probably another 'cyber bullying' case (there has be so many recently)
As it seems to be attracting interest I think it would really help if Molly's name was in the thread title.
I do believe there are many people who want to see this entire 'case' investigated much further.
Thank you all for your efforts !!

I assume we won't hear a lot till the special prosecutor makes the next move, but I think of this case every day.

So, I was at the DuQuoin IL State Fair over Labor Day wknd & saw many signs/billboards & T shirts for Molly! My sister & her husband who live not far north of Mt Vernon had no CLUE about this . . . I told them they needed to get out of their Wayne County bubble.

The Disclosure is where I read about this case 'cause I don't trust "The Southern"

Sort of easy to see what happened here, but that doesn't mean it could be proven with objective testimony delivered under oath in a court of law.

I don't think its "sort of easy to see what HAPPENED" maybe "sort of easy to see what is POSSIBLE" but its also possible that she killed herself. And if it can't be proven, someone shouldn't be convicted.

<modsnip>

Legalmania, apparently Molly texted the boyfriend's roomate (or someone texted the boyfriend's roomate from Molly's phone) stating that the boyfriend had gotten drunk and vomited all over himself and "needed help cleaning himself up".

One last interesting tidbit: Molly's boyfriend had fresh scratches on his side/back when police arrived. When questioned about these scratches, he stated they must have happened when he was giving Molly CPR. Three and a half hours after her approximate time of death, mind you.

<modsnip>

Neither boyfriend or roomate's DNA was ever tested.

I'm confused. Tested for what? I'm guessing both their DNA was all over the house and on Molly.

But local LE seemingly never even considered the possibility. I don't think anyone will argue with you that an innocent person shouldn't be convicted, but do you really not feel this case is super hinky? Do you not feel it was worthy of re-examination?

When I first started reading into this thread I also felt something wasn't right, but as I read further into the actual police reports, family statements, Molly's history and the coroner's inquest I began to see a much different picture. I've since come to believe that Molly likely did this to herself. Of course I could be wrong, but don't really find anything that screams homicide to me.

For instance:

In regard to the bullet entering the left temple area and the fact she was right-handed; odd? I'm not so sure. It is unknown if she used both hands to shoot the gun and if she held it in the position of allowing her thumbs to pull the trigger (which would explain absence of blood under her fingernails and having the residue on her cuff and sleeve). I revisit in my mind the scenario of a female highly distraught (which I gather from her last texts about reading the texts her ex sent another female) sitting on the floor, near the closet door, knees pulled towards her chest, leaning forward with both hands gripping the gun which is somewhat steadied on her knees or between her knees as her forehead rests on the end of the barrel. In this situation, a right-handed person is more comfortable turning their head towards the right (chin towards shoulders), thus allowing their left temple to rest upon the barrel before shooting. (Also, because it was a contact shot, the abrasions located within centimeters of the entry point and the burns lead me to believe her head was leaned over the gun.)

The bullet had a slightly downward trajectory which isn't generally the case in a self-inflicted gunshot wound, but if she were in the position I described then that downward path within her head would actually be due to an upward movement of the bullet. (I hope that makes sense)

There has also been information on the ex's phone not syncing to allow LE access the deleted information. While I do believe this was done on purpose by the ex, I have a problem believing it had to do with Molly, but rather, more to do with drugs. Of the pictures taken by LE, one of the photos of the apartment revealed a hookah in the kitchen. Since most young people probably don't own one unless they use it, I am guessing he may have...leading me to believe there were possibly texts from or pictures of the ex on his phone which had to do with this. Working for the police department, he knew he had to get rid of them. In fact, I wonder if any delays in contacting LE had to do with ridding pot from the residence.

There's so much that makes more sense to me now after reading so many facts in this case that I really do have a hard time believing the ex did it. There are only one or two things I find strange, but really, even they don't indicate it being a homicide.
