CHICAGO — The Chicago Police Department sent out a missing person’s bulletin late Sunday afternoon after a Northwestern University doctoral student went missing in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Police said 25-year-old Peter Salvino went missing from the 800 block of West Lill Avenue around 12:15 a.m. Sunday after FaceTiming his father, Marty. Salvino was supposed to meet his father for the Bears game Sunday, but family members have been unable to find him.

Salvino was last known to have left from a party in the 2400 block of North Geneva Terrace where he was wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt and maroon pants.

If you or someone you know has information that could help police find Salvino, CPD encourages you to reach out to Area 3 SVU at (312) 744-8266.

I have a lot of questions. I wish the timeline was more clear. Did he FaceTime his dad from the 800 block of West Lill during his walk home, and if so, how far was he from his final destination?

I hope he will be found safe. It is disturbing that another young male university student has gone missing after leaving a party, and the lake is nearby.

I live in Chicago - it was bitterly cold last night. It's almost 11 a.m. and it's only 18 degrees at my house now. If he was just wearing a sweatshirt-type jacket and had a fall (some street surfaces in the city are still a little snowy/icy) or other minor mishap hypothermia would be a serious risk. I hope he just ended up with someone he met up with and didn't call his family.

Peter Salvino was last seen leaving a party in the 2400-block of North Geneva Terrace in Lincoln Park. Chicago police said he FaceTimed a friend at 11:59 p.m. saying he was walking to his apartment in the 800-block of West Lill Avenue and was about half an hour away. The friend called him again about 15 minutes later to confirm he arrived home, but Salvino said he was still walking.

Police said at 12:31 a.m. Sunday his cell phone pinged a location near Diversey Harbor. At about 12:37 a.m., the friend once again called Salvino to see if he had gotten up, but police said the call went unanswered.

CPD said that between then and 9:30 a.m. multiple friends sent text messages, all of which were successfully delivered but none of which were answered.

Police said beginning at 9:45 a.m. all phone calls made to Salvino went straight to voicemail, and all text messages went undelivered.

The Weiner's Circle confirmed that Salvino, who is a regular customer, stopped into the restaurant that night between 10:30 and 11 p.m., and shared an image of them caught on their surveillance video.

Oh no. Diversey Harbour has lots of water. Young men and evenings out and water is always troubling.

Body pulled from Chicago's Diversey Harbor identified

The Cook County Medical Examiner confirmed with FOX 32 Chicago that the body was Salvino, the 25-year-old Northwestern University doctoral student who disappeared early Sunday morning.

IMO
Timeline. Worth the read.

Tuesday evening. Shortly before 6:30 p.m. police said they had pulled a body from the harbor, but have not yet said whether it is Salvino.

The article was updated saying that they have ID’ed the body as his. Sad news.

From that other cctv image at the restaurant, it looks like he had another lightweight coat over the grey hoodie, at least. And a wool cap.

ETA: Oh Nooooo, just read the last few tragic posts. WHY? This is heartbreaking news. I don't get it. :(

I live in Chicago and have noticed an alarming number of young college-aged white men going missing or found dead who all fit a similar description as Peter Salvino. I see missing posters all over and first noticed this about a year ago. I joined websleuths to see if i can find out more, so let me know if anyone’s noticed something similar if you live in Chicago.

I don’t live in Chicago but I’ve read numerous accounts about the similarities in the men who have gone missing and the circumstances. It has happened in other areas, too, all very similar. At least from what I’ve read, it doesn’t appear these disappearances and deaths are being investigated as suspicious, despite their commonalities.

In my opinion this seems like a serial killer targeting men. In no way do I think this is a random person casually approaching men and coaxing them to walk out of there way and just go jump in a lake.
I think (and do not freak out) that these men very well may have contacted another person via a hook up app like grinder, tinder, etc with the intention of meeting this person far from the public eye and things went sideways. I also think this victim, the young polish man Krzysztof Szubert, and the transgender activist, Elise Malary have a very strong chance of being related cases.

They all were found in the colder months when very few people, if anyone at all, is down near the lake at night. If you are walking home the lake is not a shortcut you just happen to take in the winter.

Ugh *their NOT there. I had to correct myself. Lol!
