COLLINSVILLE, Ill. — The Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis has released photos of a suspect in a deadly Tuesday shooting in Collinsville, Illinois, which police now believe was a targeted attack.
Portia L. Rowland, 32, was shot at about 6 a.m. in the 1300 block of Olive Street while warming her car. The Collinsville Police Department requested the assistance of the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis, which was actively investigating the case.
“This was very out of the ordinary," said Mark Kuechle, deputy commander with the Major Case Squad and assistant chief with the Collinsville Police Department.
Kuechle said the attack appears to have been targeted.
Rowland was shot and left near her garage early Tuesday morning. Neighbors reported hearing screams, followed by three gunshots, before the suspect fled the scene.
Officers responded to a report of gunshots being heard in the area. When they arrived, they found Rowland lying near the garage, suffering from a gunshot wound.
The Major Case Squad released new surveillance photos Wednesday of a hooded man who appeared to be holding a weapon.
