CHICAGO - Chicago police are looking for a dental office employee who has vanished from the South Side.

Rena Baker, 39, was last seen on Wednesday at 76th and King Drive in the city's Chatham neighborhood, according to her family. She was captured on surveillance video leaving her friend’s house and getting into her car.

The maroon Hyundai Sonata with Illinois license plate Z709627 was spotted by license plate readers on the Dan Ryan.

"On 79th and the Dan Ryan the police were able to see her vehicle to about 91st on the Dan Ryan," said Andre. "We don’t know where she is at though."

Her brother says she left her cellphone at home and the direction the car traveled in is strange.

"It doesn’t make sense," he said. "She could have gone straight down King Drive to get home."

Baker is a mother of three young children and works at a dental office near 51st and Pulaski in Archer Heights.

"She was supposed to pick up her son [from school]. She’s always there on time and she wasn’t there," said Andre Baker, Rena's brother.

The 39-year-old also missed a milestone in her daughter’s life.

"She graduated today. This was supposed to be a celebratory day and the poor baby didn’t have her mom there," said Andre.

Baker is 5'3" tall and 130 pounds, police said. She is African American, with black hair and brown eyes.

According to officials, 39-year-old Reena Baker, a mother who lives of the city's Roseland neighborhood and works as a dental hygienist, was last seen Wednesday at a friend's house, near 76th Street and King Drive. Family and friends say they don't believe Baker made it home following that visit.

Baker's family also says the 39-year-old did not pick up her son from school Thursday, and missed her daughter's graduation ceremony earlier held earlier this week.

"I immediately knew something was wrong," Baker's ex-husband Christian Bowie said. "I know this isn't like her."

sad for Brittany and those who loved her but seems there is zero reason to connect her with RENA. Let's keep the focus on RENA BAKER here. Leaving the phone at home is the only thing that gives me pause right now. But it's a long pause. Did she drive away from the friend's house in her vehicle alone? If there is video or her leaving the home and getting into her car (sans phone at that point???), perhaps some info is being held back. Hoping Rena is hiding out, made a wrong turn, something that has her being okay.

Did the friend confirm that Rena had been there?

Oh no. That car in the video definitely looked like hers (to me). It seemed to be pretty hidden where it was parked. I wish the neighbors who said it had been there for a while would have connected it to the vehicle LE was looking for. This is one of those cases where you hope it isn't her, but it probably will be. Her poor kids! I felt it was going to turn out badly when she missed her daughter's graduation ceremony when she sounded like a very involved mother. Now waiting for ID with many prayers to her family.

Edited to add: might be the angle of the video because it mentions an alley, so I can't tell how "hidden" it really was.

I'm so sad for Rena's family. This article gives, for the first time I remember seeing it, the time she left her friend's house, which is 10:30 pm Wednesday. We know from previous articles that she was seen on ring-camera leaving the house and getting into her car. Her aunt says she talked to her Wednesday, and Rena told her she was heading out to her friend's house. The ex-husband says that his first indication that something was wrong was on Thursday afternoon when she didn't pick their son up from school. From this I'm assuming that the children didn't spend Wednesday night at her home, maybe they were with their father that night. Her car was spotted twice after she left her friend's house, but the police haven't said at what times it was spotted.

Nicole Brevard, Rena’s aunt, spoke to her the day she mysteriously vanished.

“We talked for about ten minutes and she said she was heading to a friend's house," said Brevard. "That was the last time I talked to my niece.”

Rena’s brother explained she was heading to her home in Roseland at around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday night.

On Thursday afternoon, she never came to pick up her son from school.

“I actually contacted her several times, texted her, called her because she is one of the most reliable people I have ever met in my entire life," Bowie told NBC Chicago. "She doesn’t miss—She lives her entire life on a schedule. She doesn’t do anything different.”

The latest article in the local news stated cause of death has not been determined. Another article from WGN (below) stated a "death investigation" had begun with regard to the body found in the vehicle which usually means a LE investigation pending autopsy results. the odds of it being any other female aside from Rena found in her vehicle are slim to none. I feel awful for her loved ones but at least they won't face years of that unknowing. double edge sword. the torture of not knowing if their missing person is dead or alive, or the knowledge that all hope is now gone of a safe return.

I am curious to hear COD and MOD if they are even able to determine that

Her car being found off the beaten path and in a manner that appears to have been hidden (IMO) suggests foul play.
