Circumstances of Recovery: On 26 October 2023 at 1338 hours, the Cook County Forest Preserve Police contacted the Institute to report the discovery of skeletal remains. The incident occurred near the cross streets of North Pontiac Avenue and West Belmont Avenue in River Grove, Illinois.

Might be a hard one to solve as there is not a lot of info for us to work with. Still trying to find media coverage. This might require sifting through the MP databases but this could also be someone who was not reported missing. I could also see this as a possible homicide where the killer was either her partner, acquaintance, or someone close to her.

I came across this post recently, and I've been trying to find information about her. I don't know if she was reported missing, her dad did make a comment that seemed like she may have been, but it wasn't clear. This UID was found 4 miles from Kristen's last known address. Or at least the last one I could find for her. There isn't much out there about her. She has an instagram but hasn't posted in a long time. If she went missing in July would it even be possible this is her, since the remains were skeletal? I wouldn't think so, but obviously July and August are hot in the Chicago area. The age range fits. She has silver rings on in several of her pics and she does wear dresses but all of that is pretty common.

Checked NamUs and she is not on there.

EDIT: It appears that Kristen Bolcar has been found per Mark Bolcar (her dad).

If these are the same remains referenced in the thread found in River Grove, 16th and 17th Preciint Police Departments scanner page stated that the remains were found under a blanket in a tent.

In my opinion, that sounds like a homeless person of which there are literally 10's of thousands in Chicagoland. If the remains were skeletonized under those conditions it's possible it's Ulha, but it could just as easily be NOT her. Four factors affect the rate and completeness of decay. The biggest is temperature. Chicago had a fairly mild summer, and if the deceased were living under the shelter of trees, and a tent, that would affect temperature. Humidity or water from the environment buffers the chemical reactions to temperature, slowing decomp down. A second factor is submersion in any amount of water, which I won't get into as it doesn't appear to apply to where these remains were found. Extreme acidity or alkalinity can hasten how enzymes degrade biological molecules (water can throw a wrench into the timeline for that though as well). Finally, anything that blocks exposure to oxygen will slow decomposition. Depending on the interplay of these four things I've seen a body deceased in an accident but not found immediately turn into a skeleton in a couple of weeks and in some crime scene cases where the body is buried it can take a couple of years.

I agree, the circumstances make it very unlikely that is Olha. Not out of the realm of possibility, but like you said, probably a homeless person.
